my screen is staying on 'logging on' the whole time, but doesn't crash.

Same here. Was in a prestige mission and bam! Steam kicked me. Now I can't log in.

Pffft, HumbleBundle gives two copies of games (one for your Steam Account, and a standalone download) and better yet, they sell games for very close to free.
