So I'm sure I'm not the only one that has ever read the wiki about a certain weapon line, felt good about the stats, and went ahead and spent time grinding for crowns/orbs in order to craft the weapon, only to be extremely disappointed with how the weapon does not fit my playstyle.

If forging new gear is supposed to take an extremely long time without the use of real-world money, then I think there needs to be an option to rent an item for use in the Training Hall or something like that. I would be so much happier playing this game for the first time if I had a clear idea of what sort of player I could be. Showing the three veteran knights in the beginning tutorial in a boss fight was a good attempt, but I think for the sort of game that Spiral Knights is it would be much more effective to allow players to explore what sorts of endgame content is available early on.

If you could go to the Training Hall, or even the Hall of Heroes, and be allowed to rent any 5* item in the game (even for a small fee, like 3 energy a weapon I would be SO OKAY WITH THAT), the crafting system would feel so much more rewarding and fun.

I think we could all agree that the ability to explore our options before committing so much time and effort to a certain line of weapons/armor would make for a much more enjoyable experience overall.

True to my name I am but a dream....

3 ce seems a little cheap, SK might make a bit more money if it was 10ce per star lvl.

Meaning 0star is 10ce and 5star is 60ce.

Or have the item be rentable for certain amounts of time

Rented items could not gain heat, and would be forever at level 1. Depending on the star level, the item would cost a base amount in energy at a rate of 2(N-1) + 10 (10, 30, 70, 150, 310), and that would last players for 1 day. Add 1/10th of the total energy cost to the end of that to make the item last one more day.
Essentially, if you're trying out a 1* anything it will be better to craft it, but you might not have the materials early on in the game and want to try it out anyways. 2* and onwards, this can work to try stuff out.

Or you could just practice with the 2*/3* version before you decide to randomly make something.

I'm confused

Will you be able to take the rented weapons to the clockworks or are they only for the training halls?
I think this is a bad idea if you can take it to the clockworks. A person can speed through the missions by renting the optimal gear for each level. Especially when heating gets harder in T3, level 1 doesn't really make a difference.

If it's only for play in the training hall, then I see nothing wrong with it.

RUNESCAPE

YES RUNESCAPE!

I remember years ago when i still played they had a function where you could rent weapons to players,

Perhaps there could be some people in the training hall that allow you to use there weapons for free or a set amount, whatever (or even players rent weps to other players and there is a set time and at the end of that time the weapon automatically goes back to the owner.

Also expand the accessory shop so that we can see our armour/costume/accessory in actual gameplay view...

Use them in the clockworks, yes

If you aren't the right rank level you can't equip certain items, and rented items would not count towards the hall of heroes missions.
Plus at the right price, renting items for each individual mission would prove more expensive than making it yourself.

I like it.

Would the rentals be able to be used in lockdown or blast network? I think that would be a good idea if the point was to make sure a piece of gear fit my play style. I think that the rental should have either a set time limit or a number of levels or rounds of lockdown or blast network. I am leaning towards levels because something can easily come up in a person's real life and that would waste the knights resources. I think that most people would want to test out weapons for play style, but I can see more than a few armor/helm sets that might be worth testing before getting the piece of gear themselves.
Maybe a new feature could be added to keep the rentals out of the clockworks in general and PvP: a set of arenas that converge on a room. The knight can choose an arena that will have waves including each monster of a family. The knight can choose a status theme, the monster type, and the tier level before entering. The status will be decided on an interface in the central room the knight enters this test facility in, and the Tier will be decided automatically by the knight's gear, but can be changed manually. THe knight must have the tier clearance necessary to access one of the lower tiers. The arena will not yield any crowns and the exit gate of the arena will lead to a path to the central room again. The central room has healing pads, Kozma, an arsenal station, a status and tier change control interface panel and a knight who explains the facility (or have the explanation be before entering the facility itself from Haven). This facility can be accessed by parties made by invites only and can be used to test out new strategies and learn about the other players playing styles in preparation for a shadow lair or more difficult mission. Should curse be an available status theme? If a knight goes down in the arena, they will be returned to the central room. There can be a piece of furniture for this (a blue cylindar with the imprint of a basic knight's body in it with energy floating around) or the knight can just respawn at the central area.
That's my 2 cents. See you in the clockworks.
