I know there are other threads about how to go about Apocrean farming, but I want to someday meet randoms in game that will have seen this thread in some way. And I can die a happy knight.
This guide is for those who decide to go to the Elite Difficulty of the Apocrea mission.
1) Go in a party of 4 that can follow EVERYTHING below. Party of 3 works if everyone is an efficient farmer. Do keep in mind the health of souls decrease due to less people being in the party.
2) After trial and error, you should PROBABLY know what works for you and what doesn't. Get a weapon combination to kill ALL 3 souls without have them all disappear. Doesn't matter HOW you do it, just DO IT. Thats a maximum of 12 sigils PER tombstone. There are other threads with their strategies for killing souls. READ those threads. I don't want to see someone waltzing in with a catalyzer expecting to farm up a buttload of sigils. Ain't gonna happen buddy.
If you see someone with a questionable weapon choice that halts them from killing 3 souls within the amount of time before they disappear,
- Leave the party or kick that person
- Ask the person. perhaps it is a mistake OR they will respond they know what they're doing. If so, let them be.
3) DO THE non-apocrean LEVELS. PLEASE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Make sure everyone has a vitapod + 3 health pills. If not, well, you're at an extreme disadvantage.
- If you're in an arena, I suggest you do the entire arena for crowns, heat, radiant crystals (hard to get), and of course the vitapod + 3 health pills
- If you decide to not do the arena, it should be for the following two reasons: someone doesn't have enough time to play and is responsible in his/her real life OR your team just has the worst equipment to have in arena (which should almost NEVER be the case)
4) When the Apocrean levels come, JUST FARM. FORGET THE DAMN PUZZLES. My number one pet peeve: people just go searching for the key hole or the key or a puzzle WITHOUT FARMING. Use common sense people.
Let's get an overview of what the puzzles are (from my experience):
- Find water + throw onto fire
- Find statue + put onto pressure plate
- Step onto 3 candles in an altar in the right order. If it's not the right order its the same as getting exploded into the face + reducing your health. You can find the right order by searching for a mound with 3 candles. Look at the order as it rises from bottom to top.
- Find key and put into key hole. Keys can come from: walking along the purple circular markings (Note: This is NOT the one from walking perpendicular purple lines. the lines have to be circular for it to be the right one), Kill regular scarabs after activating a skull in the middle of barren ground, Kill trojan statues to release the key, Find the key in plain sight without doing anything
Each puzzle also has a chance to drop a perpexling element. Which is useful for crafting whatever you need. There probably is more puzzles, but this is from my experience. Check out other threads for more possible puzzles to encounter.
Now back to the point. How many sigils is a puzzle worth? In elite difficulty, it's 18. Now let's do the math. 18 ÷ 4 = 4.5 That means 4.5 souls = 1 puzzle. How long does it take to kill approximately 5 souls? SHORTER THAN IT TAKES TO FIND THE DAMN PUZZLE. Damn. Use common sense.
5) What to do in Apocrean levels: JUST FARM. Each party is different in how they organize. But all parties have one thing in common: Kill the tombstones pls.
Also - kill scarabs so other people don't die needlessly.
Another point - if you're being chased, let people know.
Here's several party organizations that have worked for me:
- Every man go kill souls by themselves. Whenever a puzzle is encountered, let other people know what it is and how it's completed. DON'T GO SEARCHING FOR THE OTHER DAMN PIECE of the puzzle. JUST HACK AND SLASH TOMBSTONES. When someone is being targeted by the harvester, that is the ONLY time when you DON'T FARM. THAT is the time to go puzzle hunting. I have seen someone open 6 tombstones all filled with souls only to not be able to kill any of them because they were running away from the harvester. When you are not hunted by the harvester, GO BACK TO HACK AND SLASHING TOMBSTONES. (More for those PUGs)
- 2 groups of 2. Each group kills EVERYTHING even if there is a harvester around. You have a get out of jail free card with your other teammate around. And you guys just farm. Keep note when you encounter puzzles for everybody. That is what the chat is for. (More for those with voice communication + friends)
- Have a designated baiter, and 3 farmers that encounter puzzles randomly and relaying information to everyone. This works, but honestly the baiter has got to be bored. haha. (More for those who have a person in the party that doesn't mind getting bored)
6) If you die after your emergency revive, you won't be able to receive sigils that your teammates obtain (at least for the majority of the time). I've received sigils after I died sometimes, it's probably a bug. So honestly, if you die, either stay dead for the rest of the level or revive immediately. Keep a goal in your head. Think "I can afford to use 1 Spark of life" or however many spark of lives you think you can use just for 1 level. Is your party worthy of using a Spark of Life? That is all up to your judgement on how good your party is. If your party can't even farm souls and just want to search for puzzles? Leave them. It's hopeless.
7)SO. HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK ON FINDING RANDOM GOOD TEAMMATES. HAPPY FARMING FOR THAT GRASPING AURA MATES (10,000 sigils FYI if you don't know already). Thanks for reading!
P.S. If theres anything I'm missing/questions/comments/concerns, let me know. I will update this guide if necessary.
