If you don't have the rads to heat your 5* weapons, then you are better off buying the mega magnus.

If you are intending on using it for killing beasts or fiends, maybe try blitz needle and flourish.

And you can craft or buy them off market and they will cost you far less than 3500 CE.

Get the MM

The Magnus line pairs well with the Needle guns for Devilite killing (switch shooting is OP with these) but for T3 Wolvers and other fiends you will want the Blitz or a Flourish.

Gorgos and Chromas are OK when using a magnus but the floating and the sideskipping will make you miss shots while with Needle guns your only problem is not hitting ALL the bullets.

First let me echo Midnight-Dj, that it's a big waste of money to buy these items from the Supply Depot. It's more economical (and more fun) to craft them yourself --- at least the last two upgrades. The only advantage of the Supply Depot is that it's instantaneous. But you still have to heat the thing, which actually takes most of the resources nowadays.

Before the recent gunner update, Callahan was a fun weapon with fast bullets, good for sniping and interrupting healers and some other monsters. But it was hard to use and didn't put out much damage compared to other weapons.

I've been using Magnus-style guns a fair amount since the update. The charge attack is vastly improved, except for weird knockback behavior. You have to position yourself carefully relative to your target, to really hit them well with the charge.

My advice is to sample all of the weapon styles in the game, including the Magnus style. If you like what you see, and want a more powerful version, then upgrade.

Its definitely worth getting
(Also, against vana and Trojans, if you hit them at point blank you get like 7 hits in, so its a good alternative to blitz)

Uhhhhh

@Vohtarak It is NOT a good alt to blitz, as if you check the dmg values on wiki, 7 times 349 is 2243, and blitz does 2580 - 2865. so.... if u had 3500 ce, i would recomend blitz over callahan. And also, you hae to shoot VANADUKE POINT BLANK. Good luck dying. Right and, vanaduke cannot be pushed back, he can only get hit 5 times max.

I said it was a good alternative, Not that they're equivalent in damage
I was saying it has some good uses
And have you actually used a Callahan on vana? Really I would like to know, do you even know why I said point blank?

Obviously you don't, a Callahan charge ( at a distance) hits once then BREAKS IF IT HITS VANA OR A TROJANS BACK, but at point blank it still breaks but hits multiple times, and takes over half a trojans health if done right. And "good luck dying" i believe you meant to say" i think blitz is the only thing for vana and every other strategy is horrible"

more than just blitz

Just because Blitz is good at killing Vana and Trojans doesn't mean it should be your only choice as a piercing gun. There are several that offer more mobility and kiting potential.

Callahan may not be as powerful but it offers that Stun which can help in fights, it also has the most knockback of any pierce gun which is a factor you have to account for.

No, I saw someone else use calahan in vana.

No, I saw someone else use calahan in vana. He only hits 5 times max. And as in good luck dying, i meant that the blitz is THE BEST but there are other options. Argent Peacemaker is actually a prety good one as i saw someone use it too.

If you were dead and spectating, the numbers overlap, you can see about 5 immediately but if you look closely you can see some of the less obvious overlapping
If you say you werent dead, then theres the fact you can't see other peoples damage, so no proof there

And thinking that not using the best gets you killed makes you sound really ignorant, you know that right?

The Callahan is a great

The Callahan is a great weapon, one if the very best piercing weapons around. However, I recommend crafting it from the 3*, it's way cheaper that way.

Try a Magnus first. If you

Try a Magnus first. If you like it, keep using it and upgrade it. GU's new charge attack really made it better. If you like the Magnus then go for a Tundrus. So you can switch shoot Callahan and Winter.

Hm

I'm going for the unpopular opinion and say that you should probably consider getting Iron Slug.

Pointing at what Bopp, Holy-Nightmare, and Midnight-Dj have mentioned, the mechanics are fairly good for kiting and sniping certain monsters, the charge attack is highly useful for dealing large amounts of damage (if you can master it), and it sends multiple things to space when you need it to.

While the piercing damage is nice, it's relatively limited in usefulness for what the damage does: wolvers can and will burrow out of the guns scope and potentially make you waste a clip (which can result to getting hit), and devilites can and will dodge at any given point, whether you're looking at them funny or not.

On the other hand, Slug provides all-around usefulness for the rest of the roster; while you can't super-damage beasts and fiends, you can wreck pretty much anything else. As a magnus user, the line is great for interrupting turrets from afar, taking down large monsters with relative ease and safety (and stunning them on the casual basis), and the charge's large hitbox is fairly good at taking a bunch of monsters down in one swoop.

Another thing is the Radiant issue: 4* will be superior to the 5* counterpart unless you have the required resources to get it up to Level 7(?) and above. Usability and DPS will vary here, this goes for most weapons.

However this all varies how you use it and if you plan to get it as an either side-weapon or main-weapon. There are other great side weapons in the game, as well as other great main weapons, so experimentation is key here!

Iron Slug

All of Gyrruss' post is reasonable, but let me point out that Iron Slug is no longer unpopular. Since the gunner update, a lot of posters on these forums agree with Gyrruss' argument.

Well, if we're comparing weapons I would definitely say to get the iron slug instead
