Random Events!

My greatest wish is for surprises within the sandbox dungeons we know as the Clockworks. Surprises? Yup!

Imagine the Shadow of Apocrea was never an event. Instead, it was a rare surprise mission that popped up randomly in the Clockworks on a group pressure pad.

You're innocently running in a Clockwork Tunnels Haunted Passage level and when your group gets on that group pressure pad, the Apocrea session occurs. You go to the Obsidian Nexus and the whole mission begins. The only to get in is by random. It's the exact same mission as we have now, except the sigil cost is way cheaper for the rewards.

So, the random events only pop up on group pressure pads? Nope.

They can be triggered by a ton of things. There can be just completely random events that spawn from any regular pressure pad. For example, those red pressure pads that open gates could spawn some enemy that's very powerful... Or maybe when you put a key into a key gate there might be an enemy that spawns... Or some rare Gremlin mission could spawn in Compounds when the group pressure pad is stepped on (You get kidnapped by Gremlins!)

I think this would make the Clockworks fun to run. Compounds will be run more often.

I'd note that only the Arcade has these random events, since missions are assigned to be completed for rewards, whereas the Arcade has no clear objective.

I'd love this sort of stuff in-game!

Also, if you die or win the random event mission you get sent back to the place where the random event was found.

what if you don't want to do the mission?

Why wouldn't you want to? You could give up of course but who would let down such of an offer...

that's not the point. some people wouldn't want to do the mission. thats why event missions are optional

also, this idea seems a little out of place. like how would this concept work for the tortodrone event? or the kat event?

I'm not saying to turn the events we have right now into random events lol. I gave Apocrea as an example. You get on a group pad, but some unexpected crazy thing happens and everyone's in a rare mission that nobody else has ever been to. You get exclusive rewards only found from the random events. It's like a 1/100 chance...

This 1/100 chance appears for all sorts of random events. It's like scenario rooms but for other things. Sorry for any confusion.

Well, why couldn't this just be special scenario rooms? wouldn't that be simpler?

and if it is a party pad, location change, again, what if you don't want to do it?

Because a mission would be more fun. Scenario rooms are aesthetics, whilemissions have their own backstory, items/rewards, and enemies. If you want to leave, you can talk to an NPC that will get you out back to the party pad from the previous Clockworks.

Hmm.

One idea would be to have scenario rooms with "optional elevators" in them. Standing on the elevator gives you the subtown text so you can invite others to come with you but you don't have to wait on anyone/leave the party. This makes these missions completely optional and a bit of a gamble, but it's something new and exciting!

Warning: Superiority Complex.

Scenario room is less surprising. Kinda ruins alot of the fun.
