I started farming for books today, and to my surprise, the 4th and 5th black kats I killed had dropped books. Seeing as though I've killed thousands of kats in the past without a glimpse of a book, did the chances get increased at all in this coming of the event?

You may have just been insanely lucky. There haven't been any notices of any book rate changes, nor kat spawn changes.
I'll just be over here giving you an envious look for about ten minutes now.

Congrats, and screw you
This was my first Kat event. I got a book on my 20th Kat kill... Then nothing for a further ~220 Kat kills... Although I got ~50 sparks and ~40 Eternal Orbs. And ~6000 Shining Crystals. And 2 True Love Lockets.
I'm so sick of Kats, and Candlestick Keep in general.
