I work a low paying job, and then buy energy. I find this to be much faster than grinding Vanaduke.

Combination of things. Usually I try to fit a 1 Vana run a day. Rarely will I do two.
Other than that, Tier 2 recipe runs into a boss. Occasionally, if the gate is good, I'll continue down to the core, aiming for T3 Recipes, arenas and clockwork tunnels (Danger Rooms). I try to do the Danger Missions too (except for HoI. I find that one too annoying to do reliably).
EDIT**
Oh and buying promo accessories/costumes and then selling them a couple months later. Works best for things that look nice but don't return, like the Fowl Cowls and Spiralhorns.

I get everything except the T2 run. Jelly king gives around 3kcr per run, so you'll only make around 5-6k from a Tier 2 run, if I'm not wrong. And it'll take almost as much time as a Vana run, or maybe more.

The point is to purchase and resell Basil-exclusive recipes for additional crowns; hence why it's a "recipe run".

I just run tier 3 gates and the daily prestige missions, nothing special in particular. Grinding Vana is efficient, but gets boring quickly.
Other boss runs work too.

Farming the black kat event then investing the money I get from using books and selling kat tribe fetishes into good deals the selling the stuff later, I sometimes do T3 arcade runs as well if the gate has strait levels in it, zee cores sell for around 500cr each and if I found a good recipe or two at the terminal then that’s like 15-20kcr for a T3 arcade run. When I find one of my friends on FSC D26 I ask them to invite me cause I need rads, I get almirian seals and other tokens in the process that add up eventually so I can vendor an ancient plate piece or trinks every now and then. Also don’t forget to pick up crystals to make pet food, cause stars sell for around 1.5kcr each on the auction house.

As Falminar said, it's a recipe run, not just a normal crown run.
Most of the time you can find something like a 3* blaster recipe, which (with the exception of the normal damage variant), can usually sell for somewhere between 7kcr and 10kcr. However I've sold Twisted Targe recipes for up to 14k cr. For only a 4k cr investment, you can make HUGE profit margins, surpassing even FSC.
Also, the arcade offers a nice variety.

I like to do some arcade runs from depth 0 to whatever tier 3 level I get to die, usually getting some good loot, depending on the stratums mix.

I just play through the arcade (usually to the terminal) since I find it fun and clockwork tunnels give you decent stuff.
