It is a shame that we cannot run the first few missions, especially because they have some unique things to them (like the giant lumber).

I assume the reason we can't is to not mess with brand new players when you are a 10-3 min-max vanguard.
Still, I think a simple fix is to only let you replay them in solo.

Also, it is really irritating if you have all missions on elite, except for the first few, when you didn't know any better a decade ago.
