Choosing an armor path
Hello,
Looking for a little input on which direction to go for my gear.
Currently I am setup with the Cobalt to Azure path for Helm/Armor and Great Defender to Aegis shield. But after looking around I am thinking about reconsidering. The current setup I have just doesn't seem to have the bonuses that some of the other gear does. I am thinking about some of the items below.
Skolver gear both hat/coat:
Pro:
5* gives Medium Sword Damage Bonus (is this stackable if using cap and coat?)
More protection from Piercing and Freeze
Con:
only one status resist
Divine Mantle:
Pro:
Defense of Elemental and Shadow
multiple status resist
Con:
No normal defense protection
Only health bonus
I'm currently using an Iceburst brandish with Firotech Alchemer MK II. May swap the sword out or run with an extra weapon slot. I was thinking about doing a Skolver Cap / Divine Mantle / Aegis Shield. If the Sword Damage bonuses stack it would be nice to make up for the amount of baddies that are strong against the Iceburst.
Any thoughts suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks
While the Thorn Shield will protect from Piercing, it only gives protection while you actually are shielding, simply having it equipped doesn't mean you get pierce protecting.
Anyway to answer your question, the sword bonuses DO stack. There are 6 bonuses; Low, Medium, High, Very High, Ultra, and Maximum which correspond to numbers 1-6 respecitvely. What this means is that with two medium bonuses (or 2 + 2) you get a Very High bonus (or 4) this is still stackable with any Unique Variants that may be on your weapon and with any boosts that may be on your shield (like the Bristling Buckler). Lets say your Iceburst Brandish has a UV of Low damage increase VS Slime and you swapped your Aegis for a Bristling Buckler, your stats will look like this:
Sword Damage Increase (against all enemies): Ultra (2 from each Skolver item and 1 from the Bristling Buckler and remember that 5=Ultra)
Sword Damage VS Slimes: Maximum (2 from each Skolver item, 1 from the Bristling Buckler, and 1 from the Iceburst Brandish)
Now about your armor choices, it really depends on you. If you'd like the attack boost and want to be more offensive then go with the Skolver but if you want more defense (Shadow and Elemental are great to have) go with the Mantle. There is something to point out though that the Mantle gives no Normal defense which almost all enemies use at some point, granted you can shield those attacks. There's also the option to mix and match but that will make you only average in each area in defense instead of strong in specific areas of defense.
Thanks guys something to definitely think about. I had thought about the in-between stages of some of the items. I think I may try out the Mantle with Skolver Cap and keep the shield for now. See how it shakes out. I may go full skolver down the line or vice-versa depending on results from delving the depths. Plus the stack-able dmg is hard to resist.
Thanks again
If you are covering all damage types then none of them are well protected. It is ok I you leave out something like piercing or shadow if you can instead max out normal or elemental. A counterpoint to that is if your armor provides beneficial bonuses as the skolver line does, then the bonus can outweigh the less useful piercing defense.
If you have one piece of divine be sure it is the viel not the mantle. They have identical stats, but the viel comes with a bonus to fiends.
i was under the impression that damage VS all enemies can go to max, but that damage vs specific types can go beyond, like you can have sword damage bonus at 2x2x1 (skolver x2 and shield) and get full benefit along with the full benefit of say, very high vs slime, then add shadow like nightblade and you have a HUGE increase of all 3 bonus's...
In the beginning, i also wanted to try the Skolver/Divine mix first(the Divine Veil looks cooler IMO), but armors don't seem to be reliable enough. I try to go with offensive bonuses because of that. The damage bonuses do stack.
I doubt, that damage VS specific enemies can go beyond a maximum. If i press P and check my weapons, they seem to stack up and the Maximum is also visible on damage against specific enemies.
Correct me, if i'm wrong.
That is correct Biggest, Using full skolver and Barb shield, Damage is max, using a UV VS slime VHigh it will say max against slimes as well. I unequip the shield Damage against all is now Very High, and Damage against slime is MAx still. Nnumber are the same between:
Full skolver + Barb AND (damage swords all MAX)
Full skolver + Barb + UV VH versus slime AND (damage swords MAX, VS Slime MAX)
Skolver + UV VH vs Slime, (damage swords Very High, VS Slime MAX)
In regards to damaging slimes that is.
There are 6 levels of bonus damage, and you can't go beyond 6. (Low = 1, Medium = 2, ..., Max = 6)
So for example if you had:
Skolver Cap (+2)
Skolver Coat (+2)
Barbarous Thorn Shield (+2)
Then you are already at 6. Let's say you have these two swords, one with a UV and one without:
Nightblade with UV Very High Slime (+4)
Nightblade without UV
If you are wearing full Skolver and Barb Thorn Shield then the two Nightblades will do identical damage. This is because the Very High Slime is going beyond the +6 damage bonus cap.
Now let's say that you are only carrying the shield and wearing some other armor like Cobalt. The resulting damage for the two swords is now:
Nightblade with UV - Medium Damage, Max to Slimes
Nightblade without UV - Medium Damage
So in this case you are hitting max to slimes, but against everything else it will match the non-UV sword and receive medium damage.
These bonuses stack on top of creature weakness. You'll get a slightly bigger percentage boost when hitting slimes using an Acheron with Max vs Slimes than you would using a Combustor with the same bonus.
ahh ok, yea, i was gettin mixed up cause i have sword bonus's and then very high on my alchemer, and for some reason i wasnt seperating that swords and gun bonus are different :P my bad...noticed my alchemer always said Very high undead, never went up, because skolver doesnt increase gun damage rofl hehe sorry for the confusion....
i agree with biggest/yonfire...
i'm not completely sure, but i debated on those settups. i decided that i'm going to go up to skolver with a grey owlite shield, then once i have that go back for the mantle and pair that with a barberous thorn shield. it's time consuming, but the skolver doesn't protect you from shadow, which can be important(and it's always good the have more elemental). the reason i'm going back for the mantle is because the stats are a lot different as it goes from 2* to 5*. and i chose the thorn shield because that makes up for the piercing and normal, while providing me with a damage boost. hope my plan helps you some.
i'm still new to this. thanks for pointing out that mistake.
