Question about Shields

Hello people, I have one Great Defender, and a Bristling Bucker, and I have a question... In the future, should I use the Barbarous Thorn Shield, an Aegis or a Heater Shield? Consider that I'll pick up a Vog Cub set, a Leviathan and a Divine Avenger.
Barbarous Thorn Shield gives Sword bonus, but Aegis have a better defense, while Heater Shield have Elemental Defense...
I'm really confused.

Ty culture, one more question:
If I have a normal/elemental set, a normal/piercing shield is not the better choice? Because if I get some piercing damage, I will be [screwed]. Or not?
PS: I don't like Owlite series because it have a low normal defense.

Although at this point more monsters have piercing attacks its not that big of a threat to anyone. Most of the piercing attacks I know of are really easily avoided anyway. In addition, shields only offer protection when they're in use. If you get hit by spikes without your shield up, you're still taking full damage whether you have a Wise Owlite Shield or Dark Thorn Shield. BTW if this was the case then you'd be better off focusing on Shadow damage than Piercing anyway.
Considering that you'll have a lot of Normal defense on your armor already and that the Owlite doesn't have a "bad" normal defense the reason to go with this shield would be the Fire and Shock resistance, both of which are annoying statuses to encounter. The elemental defense is also nice since those are attack you'll generally NOT want to be hit by. I have a Dark Thorn Shield right now and if I step on an electric panel my shield will break in 2 hits.
BTW if there was a reason to hate on the Owlite Shield it would be because half of its line looks stupid

I think....
Get both.
But if i were you, id get owlite 1st since its more useful in FSC. And its a solid shield overall that is never bad no matter what stratum u go to.

As its been said, it depends on you. The Owlite is better for a defensive game while the Thorn Shield is more offensive.

Barbarous Thorn Shield is an offensively-oriented shield and a popular choice. I use one occasionally and it works well. (Except in arena-heavy areas or FSC, I'll instead bring a Grey Owlite. And in Fiend strata I prefer Crest of Almire.) Because it is an offensive shield, it won't hold up for long under pressure, so if there are a lot of enemies around you will need to be more cautious.
As for shields which provide exceptional defense, I don't think I'd recommend either the Aegis or the Heater Shield. The Aegis is very stylish though. The Volcanic Plate Shield might provide more defense than Aegis and comes with Fire/Stun resistance. Grey Owlite is a more useful elemental option since it is Normal/Elemental like the Heater Shield but has Fire/Shock which are much more deadly than Freeze.
Some background on the Heater Shield - originally it was just a 5* recipe with no upgrade path. Making it a very cheap 5* shield to acquire. It was added to the Defender line so that no 4/5* equipment could be crafted in an unbound state. As a result, it really doesn't fit in with the defender line.
Given your current setup, I would recommend leveling the thorn shield up to 5* and see if it works well for you. If you still feel you need more defense then look into the plate or owlite lines.
