A polyp is basicaly the same but it has 360 vison, and a howlitzer is the same but it turns into a missile. Gun puppys need something unique to even that out.

I've been told gunpuppies

I've been told gunpuppies have higher hp. I've noticed they do take a little longer to kill, and this little starts to matter a lot in the standard final round of arena 8 way barrage.

Polyps IMO are actually a little weak, not horribly so, just a little. The 360 is tough yes, but they get interrupted easier and they're a little easier to dodge (and I'm bad at dodging >.>).

No words on howlitzers, they're like the perfect balance of immobile evil. Though they do still have lower health compared to puppies that suicide thing makes you have to be overly careful about that...

I've also noticed that gun

I've also noticed that gun puppies take a little longer to take down. I was in an arena the other day sniping the Ring of Death with a Prismatech Alchemer mk II, and the Howlitzers went down in four hits; when I did the same arena with puppies later that day, they went down with 6. This matters more when there's more of them, of course, but it does still matter.

They also deal different damage types, so combining them in different strata does make each type uniquely challenging. Facing puppies when I've brought my pierce resist for a Beast stratum, for instance, can be harder than facing (supposedly) superior Polyps.

The howlitzers' face missile

The howlitzers' face missile is annoying when the knockback shoves you into the line of sight of other howlitzers. =\

On the whole it does seem almost a relief to see gun puppies when you were expecting howlies or polyps. Extra health doesn't do them much good when you shoot them with a kilowatt pulsar line gun.

Edit: Polyps have no turn time either, which is just all round more dangerous than a gun puppy.

For howlitzers/polyps

Charge DA, run in swing. First hit, then secondary swing to recharge hits, projectile hits twice and kills the suicide head with no danger to you.

Polyps are relatively easy to dodge. Just place yourself to the inside of the arena at a right angle between the two polyps in the corner. Move to the outside and kill the polyp. Repeat on the other. Make your way slowly up the sides repeating this process.

Profit.

Howlitzers turn into rocket puppy rockets smart one...

I didn't notice that the gun puppys had more health, so I stand corrected. That being said, I do feel more relived when I see gun puppies as opposed to something else. Mabey give gunpuppies a charge attack or something, with a big bullet?

I think part of this is that

I think part of this is that most players are pretty accustomed to fighting Gun Puppies at this point. In my experience, people get in the most trouble with Polyps and Howlitzers when they try to fight them as if they were regular turrets, circling round them in an attempt to outpace their tracking speed (which obviously isn't much use against Polyps) and closing to melee range for the sake of increased damage (which frequently leads to a Howlitzer skull to the face). The new turret classes are a tremendous hassle, agreed, but only until you work out how to fight them effectively. I don't think they're particularly overpowered compared to Gun Puppies; their challenge comes from forcing players to consider their approach with a little more care.
