Shadow keys are too rare. 20 lockboxes and 20 silver keys are required to get ONE. That is like 15000CE to open them and 40000cr for the lockboxes! Sure, you get some (crappy) accessories, and shadow keys are 3% chance. Add the shadow key to the prize reel, make it as common as lockboxes. Anyone with me?

LOL no. They're meant to be

LOL no. They're meant to be too rare. I'd prefer that you could buy the shadow key from Boost for 1000 CE instead of getting it by random chance.

If they're supposed to remain rare, why not have them accessible through the prize wheel rather than having them open to everyone with enough CE on their hands? Stashing them with Boost would make them anything but rare. Buy an energy package and you can easily fetch 7+ keys.

If Shadow Keys are to be introduced to the Prize Wheel, I call for them to only appear on the Depth 28 elevator, the elevator that takes you down to the Core, which means you basically have to hit the core for it. To counter inviting-friends-for-more-Shadow-Keys you could implement a system that forces players to complete a full Tier 3 run to have a chance to roll the Shadow Key on the wheel, which means you cannot receive an invite in mid-Tier 3 and get a free Shadow Key out of it. (Much like having to complete a full floor before the Terminal to purchase 2*+ recipes from Basil.)
Basically, do all 9 floors of Tier 3, or the Key won't appear on the wheel.

Or....

The least they could do is put silver keys on the prize wheel. Maybe put shadow keys on the prize wheel IN the shadow lair levels.

Or...

...I would prefer to have it as a possible prize after doing something really hard and fighting the new mobs in the meanwhile: http://forums.spiralknights.com/es/node/30645 (Idea explained at that suggestion of mine)

It fails at the numbers game.

It fails at the numbers game. Even at <1% chance, you have people moving between levels constantly, each adding to the rate that they would be found. Just look at Lock boxes... they have a very low chances of being awarded, yet the ton being sold in AH proves body count can overcome probability.

LOL

So, based on your own numbers in the original post, you are suggesting making shadow keys more than 30 times as common as they are now. And that's assuming that every single lockbox that is found is actually being opened, which is highly doubtful.

Suppose someone made a post talking about how you need to beat a boss a bunch of times in order to get ONE boss item, and you need to reach the bottom of a tier to even get a chance at fighting a boss, and so boss tokens should have a chance to drop from every treasure box, and drop rate should be such that players, overall, would collect more than 30 times as many boss tokens as they currently do. How seriously would you take that post?

If you are honestly trying to improve the game, how about:

  1. Articulate a clear and vaguely reasonable goal, like "accessing a shadow lair should be about as hard as constructing 6-star equipment, if it existed following current equipment patterns". People will dispute the merits of your goal, so be prepared to defend it.
  2. Figure out a change that would accomplish that goal.
  3. Instead of pulling numbers out of thin air, calculate as well as you can from actual game numbers how big your change has to be to accomplish your goal. Show your work.
  4. Discuss the merits AND drawbacks of your idea, and explain both why the drawbacks are worth it, and why the merits can't be obtained without drawbacks at least that bad.

Heavy, its for a limited time

Heavy, its for a limited time only.
I would like it to be on the prize wheel, however, they should be for separate dungeons,(ex, FSC key, wildwoods key, factory key.) So it wont be too overpowering to OOO's income

Oh

Gotz it thanx for the alert. And before you ask to put Shadow keys in, think why SILVER KEYS can't be put in the wheel!!

actually, hes got a piont, i would be fine with having a chance to have silver keys in the wheel, therefore i could pop open lockboxes with minimal cost.

I support the idea.

I think putting shadow keys on the prize wheel is a good idea. But, keys obtained though the prize wheel should be bound to the winner. That way you can either spend lots of money to get a shadow key from the AH, or you can hope to win a shadow key through the prize wheel.

Another idea is to have a "partial shadow key" show up in the prize wheel. 4 partial shadow keys = 1 shadow key. This should offset the fact that 4 people can enter the shadow lair on one shadow key. Again, this partial shadow key would be bound to the winner. That way, you can either group together with friends and get partial shadow keys or buy full shadow keys at the AH.

Bosses dropping keys?

It would be cool if there was a small chance bosses would drop (applying Twiddle's idea here.) partial silver or shadow keys, and have the chance go up as you go deeper, like on lockboxes.
