While a month of free Clockworks running SOUNDS tempting…

Mist energy, the most valuable resource of us free players, just got rendered effectively obsolete. Not sure how to feel about that.

Useless? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over my 100 energy discount

No, seriously. Instead of spending your mist energy on spelunking, you can now use it for crafting and other shenanigans you can think of. Your mist energy is still as useful as it has always been, but now you have the opportunity of using it for crafting-discounts instead of running through the Clockworks. If you're one of those who bought an Elevator Pass, your mist energy should now be more useful than it has been up until now, as you can reduce your crafting cost by one-hundred units of energy a day.
How you see this as rendering mist energy effectively obsolete is beyond my understanding.

And crafting... There will

And crafting... There will be a lot more people trying to convert ME into CE now, so expect prices there to drop. On the other hand, the increased crowns that these players will have will mean they can bid up UVs, accessories, etc.

But, the truth is, i suspect most of the ME (and then some) will be burnt up in revives.... It is scary how quickly I've seen people energy revive in PUGs, I suspect it will become even more common now.

hmm.

I believe he means that, for those players who don't purchase Elevator Passes, that their Mist Energy is less competitive, due to the aforementioned 'energy discount' that Pass-users are privy to.

It's not a perfect argument, but the point is that because P2P Pass players now are able to use their Mist Energy freely for crafting, it makes F2P Mist Energy less 'valuable'.

I would say that ME for F2P players is far from obsolete(it is still a valuable resource) but yes, it has the potential to make life more difficult for them.

This speculation does, however, hinge on how the CE market will(or won't) be affected by the Pass implementation. If the most desired resource for F2P players(CE) becomes cheaper as a result of the passes, then F2P players will actually benefit from the results.

If it becomes much more expensive, there will be a cause for complaint due to an untenable F2P scenario. Currently it is far too early to tell.

In two weeks or so, we will get a better picture of the results.

How does this work?

So how does the Elevator Pass work? Does it effectively make the elevator costs 0 ME/CE or will the elevator take from available ME first before applying the pass?

Can you still have other players ride on your tab and, if so, I'm sure they would take from ME/CE, correct?

Like other MMOs

For paying players, mist energy becomes a 100 energy crafting/unbinding/whatever discount. I believe this makes Spiral Knights to be similar to other monthly-subscription MMOs. Which I think is a good idea. Someone has to pay for server upkeep. Maybe they can get rid of the annoying reboot maintenance time.

@Aubie

To answer your questions,

1)
Any elevator that you use will be free. This means that it will consume no crystal nor mist energy; absolutely no energy of any form is consumed upon usage of the lifts.

2)
Tabbed players will still consume your energy as before, meaning that they cannot make use of your Elevator Pass. The Elevator Pass is only available to your Knight, and any other Knights associated with your own account of which you purchased the Elevator Pass on.

Additional information:
The Elevator Pass is automatically activated upon purchase, meaning that once your transaction has been completed and the server has registered your purchase, your Elevator Pass will immediately be activated and start ticking down from that point.

Hope this helps.

I have a question

After purchasing your pass, can you see someway how much time you have left before it expires?

@Eeyup

Like other time-based usables, the exact expiration date and time will be displayed when hovering your mouse cursor over the item in your arsenal. It is found under the Usable tab.

@ Shidara

Mist is obsolete for the guys who DON'T buy passes. It's the only energy we can use (besides CE, which costs like 6500 crowns per 100 energy?). We have to conserve it and wait for it to recharge fully before we craft anything 3*. Meanwhile, most P2P people have a significant amount of CE, which would allow them to jump to 4 or 5 star gear in one or two weeks of serious playing.…

And then comes along this elevator pass, which gives those players a month without elevator energy costs, which like you said, provides an energy discount for crafting yet allows them to play on the same day without using up CE.…

…as if the gap between F2P and P2P in this game wasn't big enough already.

So let me get this straight...

Just because paying players can now access 30-days of free elevators (that might never occur again, this is just a test) your previously most valuable resource, mist energy, has now become completely and utterly worthless? Sorry, but your logic is still not impressing me.

I use my mist energy +50 CE

I use my mist energy +50 CE to buy Trinket Slots since I don't craft. Now as soon as people stop selling Trinket Slots for less than 100 CE (looking at current AH prices compared to price for 100 ce) I might sell them..

Elevator pass has reinforced my role as team medic even more, extending to party wipes. Wipe in SL? I have 100me waiting to be used for revives.

With these elevator passes,

With these elevator passes, you can farm all the crowns you want. People get to have more CE, which increases demand, which then increases the prices of CE. Now what I think OP meant was that, you get less from what you get with your ME compared to the times when there were no elevator passes.

Prices of CE without elevator passes: 6k~6.2k
Prices of CE with the introduction of passes: 7k~7.2k

Clearly, ME is devalued for the F2P people.

Elevators = Crown inflation =

Elevators = Crown inflation = everything will cost more in crowns :)

7K is only the beginning. Over time, if elevator passes rise in popularity, CE prices will continue to rise indefinitely.

History repeats itself..

I heard prices spiked 10K during beta. I hope for the sake of FTP players that it won't strike that amount again.

Crafting, krogmo bribes, ce

Crafting, krogmo bribes, ce rez to win a game of LD for more coins to sell mod cals, revive for free in the clockworks, ETC

Also @ Shidara, prices were at 10k during beta because you got nearly double the crowns from every level and there was a gate open at almost all times that had ONLY an arena at about 18/20 of the depths.
