A suggestion for the game is the implementation of directional shields. In short, they would be able to take more damage, but are limited in that they can only take damage from inside an arc.
Possibly these shields may have a time limitation, as opposed to a damage one, or something.
A function like this would allow a new supportive role in raiding.

When you mean something
When you mean something similar what the Trojans or Tier 3 Gremlins are using, than that's a good idea.
The downside would be just if the opponent attacks your from behind, when using the Shield, that you're taking full damage.
But I would make that the shield has a limit while enduring the attacks, similar to the Guardian in LD
I doesn't sound like it needs that much more coding, either, since most of our shielded foes have it. To make these shields competitive against normal shields, they should have max health and max resistance against all the damage types. There could be another shield type that's even stronger, which has only a quarter of the normal shield arc (also half the arc of the enemy-type shields) that has max resistance to all damage types and all status effects. The disadvantage to these shields is the lack of all-around protection, which becomes more important when the number of enemies increases.
