I suggest there should be a system for weapons and items called "item experience". It would be shown like this:

e.g.

Level 7 (heat) [level and heat progress to next level]

Antigua [name]

Attack Power [power]
2.2 bars piercing [damage]
8 bars speed [speed]

Charge Time Reduction: Low [UVs, bonuses, status, etc]

54 - Used [experience]

*** [star level]

I still haven't told you what it is yet, have I? I'm going to now.

Well, experience works like this. You get an item and equip it. Let's say it's a Wolver Cap. The experience shows 0. You go into the Clockworks. You complete a level. Your experience now reads 1. You complete Gloaming Wildwoods and kill the Snarbolax with it. It now reads 4. You do Moorcroft Manor through Depth 13 wearing it. It now reads 10. Have you figured it out yet?

Yes, item experience tracks the amount of levels you have completed while wearing the item. There'd be different ranks. When you first get it, it'd read 0 and be labeled "Brand New". Complete 10 levels with it, it'd read "New". Ranks:

Brand New: 0-9
New: 10-24
Your's: 25-44
Used: 45-69
Slightly Worn: 70-99
Worn: 100-134
Marked: 135-169
Scratched: 170-219
Scorched: 220-269
Damaged: 270-324
Battle-Worthy: 325-379
Decorated: 380-449
Veteran: 450+

It would be purely cosmetic and not affect the weapon/item in any way. Just a way of knowing how many levels you've used it in. And other people can inspect you and sort of tell how long you've been using it. Wouldn't it be cool to have your gun or sword a Veteran or Battle-Worthy?

Have wondered before about

Have wondered before about that myself, although I was thinkin' of a "kill counter" instead of a "floor counter", but that's arguably better; keeps the numbers smaller and keeps away the ideaology of "kill-stealing" since people would actually be able to keep track of it then.

I like the concept though I might be upset that everyone will be equal start and my Sentenza will be " Brand New" with them, regardless of our many glorious victories. Veteran Proto Gun here I come!

Yes

Just, yes. This seems like something which any tier of player can do. From the Noobs with their Brand New Proto-Swords, striaght to the end-gamer with their Veteran DA's. Although, does the Experience reset if you unbind it? I, personally, hope it does; that way the connection between your weapons would be greater.

@Darkbrady: When I thought of

@Darkbrady:

When I thought of this I actually thought about making it a kill counter instead; but then I realised there's no clear way and actually distinguish you got a certain "kill" - most of the time multiple members of the party deal equal, or similar damage to the enemy.

@Purepwn:

Well, if this is implemented, I hope that everyone's experience ranks are set to how many levels they've completed, although I don't know if that's possible. It'd be a shame if people were thinking your Sentenza was Brand New when it should've been Veteran or something.

@Ghret:

Yes, it'd be one of those rare things that everyone could enjoy. Better yet, no one could brag about it - "look at my decorated leviathan blade! it's so much better than your brand new combuster" "how is it better, the rank doesn't make a difference" - so it'd be great. Also, I thought, in the beginning of this idea, that it might be pushed down by heat, because you can sort of track how many levels you've completed using heat. But then I realised how silly that was, because you'd almost never gain the same amount of heat from any level, ever.

Now that I think about it, it'd be awesome to just have like an "Item Experience Trailer" where it starts off with a noob wearing a sallet is talking to an Azure Guardian with Cold Iron Vanquisher and he says, "Hey, what's your sword? Mine's New", and the Azure says, "Mine's Scorched."

Then others join in the conversation, the camera zooming out slowly, until it shows a huge crowd of knights in the Arcade sharing ranks, then zooms in on specific groups - bombers sharing their bomb ranks, gunslingers theirs, accessory fanatics showing each other how many levels their accessorized items have been in - until it zooms out of the Arcade, showing the Town Square and the whole of Haven doing the same thing. Then it has some big animated sign like "Spiral Knights - Introducing" then underneath, it huge letters: "ITEM EXPERIENCE"

Enough of my fantasies, lol.

I'd expect it'd be reset on unbinding, I guess it's like Knights in stories always naming their swords, but here it's counting levels completed, and when you lose it, it's unique attributes are wiped.

Purepwn said my concern.

I was going to post exactly what Purepwn did: Would it be possible to be retroactive? Presumably no, though I'm no programmer so who can say..

Even though you can't "brag" about it since it doesn't make a difference, I think some people might skewer it a little. Like, doing Tier 1 runs a lot. Not that it would benefit them, but it might ruin the purpose of seeing "Veteran" on someone who did half-AFK floors for it. Just a thought.

Otherwise I don't see why not.

EDIT: I'm assuming it also works with costumes, since you mentioned accessories.

It would be nice if it can be

It would be nice if it can be applied retroactively, but from a coding perspective I doubt it would be feasible, unless they already have counters installed for some reason.

People may skew it by running T1 a lot to up their bragging rights but...well, if they want to go to a tier that costs more than it pays just to speed up their aesthetic bonus then that's their problem really. The bonus may be viewable to others, but since it doesn't designate skill, ability, specific floor difficulty or even whether it's actually used on that floor, it's mainly a personal trophy to show yourself how long you've had/used it.

Exactly.

"...it's mainly a personal trophy to show yourself how long you've had/used it."

My thoughts exactly, which is why I said that. Since you are able to run T1 over and over, it makes it a little less prestigious, even if you personally didn't. Just the title seems less valuable. All I was saying. And with an Elevator Pass you could rank it up really quick in T1...

But, as you said if they want to waste their time getting basically no heat/crowns to speed up their aesthetic bonus it's their problem. I'll stick to the good levels. lol.

Someone like me would like to

Someone like me would like to see a tonne of other stats. Total damage dealt, attacks made, charge attacks made, number of full combos made/clip has been emptied (void for bombs of course)

Sorry :P I got carried away ^_^

Not only can people skewer

Not only can people skewer the system by doing a lot of t1s, they can also just take a random weapon as a sidearm that they never use, and still get the bragging rights.

I'd say instead of counting levels, count the damage. And since you do more damage at lower levels, it would encourage people to farm lower levels.
However, this might be a problem for status bomb users...

I <3 my Blazebrand

I'm a 4* player currently, and Blazebrand, my first 4*, and I have been partners for quite a long time. I'm actually quite fond it of it, and it's UV CTR low helps too (I rarely ever get UVs but usually they're not bad, like today I crafted a Kilowatt Pulsar with ASI low). We've been through thick and thin, and have always prevailed. I think that my Blazebrand deserves something for helping me all this way. +1

@Hmmnm Actually, this would only help with getting it quickly. All levels cost 10 energy. T1 is no different than T3 in that. But what I think is that T1 should maybe earn like 1 exp, T2 earns 1.5, T3 earns 2. All bosses earn 3.
