I'm trying to pick Spiral Knights back up again after like half a year and for whatever reason I can't launch it. I run it on steam and get as far as the black screen before it closes out. Things to note:
1) I've updated Java
2) I did a diagnostic boot so I'm pretty sure my firewall isn't an issue because I turned it off. For those wondering it is Norton
3) I'm playing on Windows Vista
4) I use a Nvidia Graphics Card (I just updated it)

I get as far as the "software" folder in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\projectx' address and "Javasoft" doesn't appear.

I found it and it looks like 2 of the settings are non existant.
I don't see either of these lines:
render_quality = /L/O/W
vsync_enabled = false

Running it in Windows XP, Vista, or 7 will reset Spiral Knights's display settings and add the two registry keys you're missing.
I downloaded and executed the batch file and I doublechecked that I had all the settings put down. I open up spiral knights through steam and it still gives me a dark window before immediately closing.
And the thing is, it's just through steam that does this. If I try the 'shotgun' way, the program works fine but I can't access my spiral knights account since I don't have a /formal/ account with this site.
I tried the batch file and still the same results albeit a smaller black screen appeared as opposed to the larger one.
If the batch file doesn't work, it can't be a problem with the registry. Have you both tried uninstalling Spiral Knights, uninstalling Steam, reinstalling Steam and then reinstalling Spiral Knights? Sorry if I'm not being of much help. I don't have much experience with Steam.
It appears that spiral knights has fixed the 'steam conversion' issue and they're right! I can play it now! Thank you for attempting to help us.
If the registry value is not present after attempting to launch the game that means the graphical component never started properly and editing the registry is unlikely to help since the game can't launch far enough for ti to matter.
What does your projectx.log look like in your ...\Steam\steamapps\common\spiral knights folder? It may list the error that is occurring.

I did everything. I did..
> Update all driver.
> Update Steam.
> Re-install Spiral Knights.
> Re-install Steam.
> Check requirement.
> Install that Batch file.
But all of them are not working.
I have a problem with steam as well so I had to disable the Steam Overlay and it works fine for me now
I have the same exact problem! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one but not like that. I do hope that we find a solution for it soon!
