The fastest way to communicate is to speak. And this is very useful for online games in which cooperation is a part of the games mechanic. By adding microphone options to the game, giving orders and instructions is simplified.

Agreed, I usually use Ventrilo to communicate with friends, but the lack of ingame chat makes it hard to communicate with random players.

Could come in handy.

While it is not necessary, it is quite useful to have. I often find myself itching to say something mid-fight, but not being able to because I'd get destroyed by the monsters if I stopped to type. Not everyone would make use of this, of course, but it's handy to have around for those who would actually happen to have a microphone and willing to use such a feature. I am no exception. Support.

I can agree to that. I'd never use it, (Talking breaks my flow.), but I could see how some people actually like to have it and like using it.

I suggest something in return to you: get Mumble and a voice server if you want voice.

It'd be nice though in case XBOX 360 ever supports a JVM and they port this over...
