I'm bored, this forum is a bit laughable/overtrolled, and, well.... It's kind of hard to enjoy the game when there are a lot of 'issues' with it. This is an RPG that will have classic RPG elements, right? Well, one BIG part of it, is questing. This would solve many problems, if done "correctly". And by correct, I mean, we avoid this scenario : for example, MapleStory has MANY useless and pointless quests. In fact, that game is one big grind, and, well, there's no fun for a long time... Here, we have T2, and Jelly King, a first boss, and an early boss. I also like to reference to him as Slime King, because it's easier to remember.

On to the main point - this is a fake quest list that's created out of boredom, since most threads aren't worth reading anymore. I have no intentions other than getting this out, because I am bored. Friggin' bored.

Format -
Name
Objective
Alternate Obj.
Tier Scale
Reward
Limit

Notes : Tier Scale - You can pick higher quest 'difficulties' with your Tier completion. If you're in T1, T1 only, If T2, T1 and T2 available, and such.
*Upon completion of one quest, you will be given a random material in their droplist. IE - You can get a Volt Oil after turning in your quest regarding Electrolisks. Heat will also be given as a reward, based on quest tier level. Value/amount of heat will be the equivalent to the objective. IE - kill 10 somethings, get a random amount of heat that would come from 10.
*There will be many types of quests.

Missions : Normal quests.
Party : Self explanitory.
Story : IF there is a story added. (All we really have is, we crash landed, and we're going to the core, and a few other things. Lore of this world, and then, we have crash landed, meaning there are other worlds to be explored. We only go to B*, which is Depth. We're going down. So, this means we can go up, too!)
Boss : These are more difficult than normal quests.
PvP : Rewards for killing people. Or other tasks.
Item : Bring stuff, get stuff. What?
Exchange : This is more of a, I trade this to the NPC, to get that from the NPC.

Story -
The planet Cradle is surrounded by mysteries. The knights of the Clockworks have barely scratched the surface of the core. But, the core is sealed, and they are now researching a way to open it. What will the other knights do? They have taken a moment to rest, and decided to explore the world of Cradle...Little did they know, danger awaited them.
The depths of Cradle, and now, the surface of Cradle.
We have arrived at a jungle area; it features all sorts of trees and environments. Swampy with Slimes, Etc, Etc.
But, with time passing, things had to change. Is this really the surface of Cradle, or are we still in a part of the Clockworks? Is this the power of the Core? Or does time pass faster up above? The mysteries had to wait, as the knights encounter familiar faces. Chromalisks. However, the further they went, the more danger they faced. Eventually, the knights faced the almighty Omegalisk. An enormous dragonlike Chromalisk. Two men were lost two the flames, and the rest were blown away by it's mighty wings.

We must have some great luck. First, the Royal Jelly, and then Vanaduke... And now, the Omegalisk?! WHY DID WE HAVE TO LAND HERE?! WHY?! Oh well, I wonder if we get any rewards from defeating it. LFG! R>OMEGALISK!!!

Area Bonus : Party Slot +2!
Maximum Members : 6.
Loot rules : Everything drops 'two' times more, to welcome the two additional knights.
Does not have tiers. Difficulty is 'on par' with Tier 2 and Tier 3, and further ends up 'greater' with extra stuff 'added'. Built around the concept of a 6 people party.
Same various paths applied. More or less the same as what we have currently, Minus T1.
New Weapons/Items : Vials with multieffects, such as a Flameshock vial, and weapons with multielements. Only a few are available, for we need things in the future. Also in : Party Capsules. Party Remedy, and Party Health. Heals 3 bars to the entire party. No Super Capsule variant.

And a New set of weapons, found exclusively in the area : Staves. These staves were created by wood found in the jungle. New 'Mineral" resource : Wood. Mineral Category renamed to Resources.

Cast Magic by charge attacking, similar to bombs. Also has a healing branch. Heals will randomly target players with the lowest HP first. Charge time is about 1 minute. 10 minutes to revive, and the charge for reviving will not be overridden by typing, but will reset when getting hit. With the highest settings, reviving can be cut to 5 minutes. If everyone is alive, reviving is not possible. Switching weapons cancel ressurection charge. Greatest use is for emergencies where you have only half a life, or ranged support with bosses. To prevent abuse, the person you revive will have your HP. If I revive you, and I have 10 HP, you will also have 10HP. Alternate prevention +, It costs half an HP to cast/revive.

If you normal attack, you will do a normal 4 hit combo. Damage with combo is medium. Combat Staff will have the highest damage, but it's charge attack will be physical. New Unique Variants : Charge Attack Bonus - examples : charge attack with Calibur, you will launch a fireball while spinning. UV stacks with staffs, so you could possibly be a double or triple fireballer. Or quadruple. Or, y'know what? 6 shots. Not enough? 10.

You know,

I actually kinda like this concept. Less CE rewards, of course (maybe grant Mist Tanks for the big quests, and CE for the one-shot milestone quests), but the idea of being able to quest to get items/goods sounds pretty fun.

I'm thinking of this kinda like Torchlight, where there were quests you could achieve just by dungeon diving further. Those were fun.

20 rat tails! How essential!

While I'd love to see story line styled quests put in, even with minimal rewards, if I end up collecting 15 wolver tails for a crown bonus I will throw my hat onto the floor in disgust.

No

It saddens me that you have been conditioned by generic mmo's to the point that you actually want generic kill 10 rat quests in this fresh and unique game.
Thankfully, the developers have shown that they are not interested at all in shoveling the same generic boring crap into this game that you find in virtually 100's of other mmo's on the market today.

Kill x amount of baddy quests truly are the pinnacle of boring and tired mmo design. If you want to go kill 20 salamanders, go do it! Nothing is stopping you. Although I suspect what you are really wanting is the REWARDS. Possibly a more structured hand held experience? I hope SK never turns into that, and if it does, I will be playing something else.

The only way I could really condone questing in this game is if the quest design was engaging/interesting/unique.

I only mind quests

When they are the focus of gaming.
I don't want to go dungeoning with a quest, notice I finished it and then feel that any more fighting I do is pointless/wasted.

If anything were like this, I'd like it to stay within the same realm as Lord Vanaduke's 'quests'.
Maybe there could be a little camp in the forest, and you progress though the map as some researcher dude discovers things?

I definitely think any of the 'return to quest-giver at haven' stuff would be a bad idea.

How about NO? I don't want

How about NO?
I don't want generic "kill x" quests in this game.
I would prefer if they did it like runescape and actually gave quests a story.

lulz

@Njthug - Not exactly a suggestion, since there's no real 'demand' for quests. Just a few ideas, no real importance if they're ingame or not.

@robot5656 - No one ever said they were mandatory, these are just random ideas.
And, how fresh and unique is going through T1-T2 over and over just for materials, to reach T3, only to be halted by either Energy issues, Crown issues, or the like? We -already- kill x amount of everything as we go through it, something you're forgetting/ignoring. You do know why they're called quests, right? "A quest to slay the dragon"? You mean, these didn't exist in ye olde games? Don't know what games you didn't touch, but RPGs have involved some sort of quest. Final Fantasy - the adventure/"quest" to save the world.

Why not add rewards while we do it, so we can get closer to the recipes we want?
Even if it's not recipes, how about a little more CE for playtime? So, you're telling me to go kill 20 Salamanders, when I'd already be doing that? In some cases, they can't even be avoided.
Critter Carapace, for example, wouldn't have been that much of a pain if there was other methods of obtaining. But, no, all we do is kill, kill, and kill.

Not to mention, you might end up needing to run twice, and for most non CE players, it'd take the next day because their tank would be empty. For CE users, it wouldn't matter. There shouldn't be any rush towards finishing these things. I'd prefer have an Objective to kill the Royal Jelly and get a free Mist Tank, and then get enough dialogue to learn about the world of Jellies. This game has almost NO story, we only have a handful of NPC dialogue that explains things.

It's already repetitive with going through T2 only to hope for enough money to get 100 CE + mats/crowns for recipes. How about something less restricting? I'm not saying there needs to be some vast open world, but, it's kind of... CE this, CE that. A little bonus for starters isn't so bad. And with the prices of 4* and 5* recipes, CE becomes meaningless. How can you need CE if you don't have CR for the recipes, which then need CE?

If I was a new player who barely made 2k out of T1, then yes, I'd kill 10 rats, for it is starting money. If I had 2-3 quests to kill said rats, I'd have enough to buy 100 CE. If I burn that up, I'll have enough for CE, and then a little left over. But, with the rising prices, it becomes more or less pointless.
I -must- be conditioned by generic stuff for thinking of newbies! ZOMG! They're there for a reason. Unless those rats were high leveled, then the rewards would be pointless.

Gee, sorry for thinking about other people. Guess the idea of putting yourself in someone else's shoes must be a gift. How sad, that not many people even bother to do that on these forums.

@hamiltond465 - They can resolve the whole going back and forth thing with the 'complete anywhere at any time' feature. Though, sadly, some games actually make you pay for that. Other than that, I'd prefer it if quests either felt like an actual quest, or were simply optional.

Gator, in your opening post,

Gator, in your opening post, you stated that you didn't want any "grind" quests like Maple Story. Yet all the quest suggestions (yes they are suggestions) that you made are exactly the same type of quests as you find in those Korean MMOs (albeit with less monsters to kill). You then went on to dismiss robot5656's contribution when he pointed that out to you.

You said that "We -already- kill x amount of everything as we go through it". So essentially you just want a reward for doing normal dungeon runs? At the moment the game doesn't need more crowns injected into the economy, and giving CE as a reward is simply just a bad idea.

If we ever see questing as a major part of Spiral Knights I would want them to be more engaging (perhaps something like an escort mission). And if they go down the line of story-based quests (which I hope they do) then I would suggest creating a dungeon for each individual quest, that can be accessed via a 'quest' gate (or perhaps this is where an overworld could come into play?).

These are all terrible,

These are all terrible, terrible ideas.

Fetch quests are lazy, uninspired game design that serve as nothing but useless, boring padding.

Actually, I'm not sure

Actually, I'm not sure Spirale Knights is RPG - there's no such info on official page:
http://www.spiralknights.com/about.xhtml

I always were thinking Spiral Knights is an action-adventure 3D brawler, like Golden Axe. There were no quests in Golden Axe, your hit points were marked by bars - not numbers, you didn't see a numbers when hitting enemies, spells could be cast only with vials... sounds pretty much like Spiral Knights isn't it?

But in fact there are quests in Spiral Knights! At the moment I have lots of active quests:
1. Get a missing Phial of Phear to upgrade my Nighblade. Reward: Silent Nightblade.
2. Do some testing with Nightblade and see if it's better that Vile Striker against menders. Reward: Ability to eliminate menders more easly.
3. Get crowns to pay back my debts. Reward: Ability to borrow crowns from guild members again.
4. Find recipe for Nameless Poncho and upgrade my lvl 10 Sunset Duster. Reward: Nameless Poncho
5. Learn how to use my Mega Magnus (UV bonus vs. fiends high) against fiends. Reward: Ability to eliminate fiends more easly.
... and many, many more...

You have been awarded the Greaver Griefer.

I can see the value of getting a reward for "killing x chromalisks" and other such "achievements."

Over in Puzzle Pirates we have trophies, which include many such "grinding" rewards, like rewards for loading N canons, clearing X crabs, or being on 100 sinking ships. These "rewards" are mere icons on a trophy page, but they serve to mark, in a way, time spent playing a certain aspect of the game. I would quite like getting a similarly useless icon here when I kill my 1000th lumber or 10,000th jelly, just because it would be neat to know that I had reached such a milestone of mayhem.
