Hello. I've reported this several times through the game bug-reporting (F2) but to no avail.

I have an Aegis shield with the UV +Increased Fire Resistance LOW.

However when this item is equipped and I hover my mouse over the avatar summary icon on my equipment screen (the little blue helm in the bottom-left), there is no indication of any Fire resistance whatsoever.

This has nothing to do with the other equipment I have on at the time; I've tried all kinds of combinations and the Fire resistance is simply not appearing. I believe it may be working (which is the good news) but it's not easy to tell.

Thanks for looking into this.

Not a bug but makes no sense then

Well that makes no sense. So the shield protects me from fire when exactly? When I am shielding myself only with X? How strange.

Yep, a shield's health and damage/status resistance only affect how quickly it breaks under specific damage types. Non-defensive bonuses from shields like the Quickstrike Buckler, Scarlet Shield, or Barbarous Thorn Shield are always active, however.

Good to know.

Well thanks that is useful information, even if it's absolutely not what one would expect.

So I have a shield in one arm and you expect it to protect from any attack even if it's hanging there instead of actaully using it?

Sorry but no, the game works as it should.

Do I really need to respond?

The rhetorical makes the point. As stated earlier, this is not what one would expect, even slightly ... and if for no other reason than that there is no GUI indication or documentation in-game to explain the difference between the two types of defense, which, after all, are tallied in identical fashions.

Also as stated earlier: Regardless, it is useful to know how shields work, so thank you to those who elucidated as much in their responses. Cheers!

there is almost no in-game

there is almost no in-game explanation for anything, or if there is it isn't easily found (at least prior to missions). The Wiki is essentially the game manual and the information you were looking for is at the top of the shields page.

I have since realized that.

Yes, I've discerned as much and it's a weakness of the game. But thank you for clarifying ... I have used the Wiki (and resisted temptations to correct bad grammar and word usage) with some frequency of late.
