i was talking to someone earlier and they mentioned a boss that i had no idea about. they then provided a wiki link and i could not click it. i think we need interactive web links.

Possibly a better solution:

Possibly a better solution: Allow selection of chat text so you can copy someone's posted link/text and paste it wherever you want.

Firstly this needs to happen

Firstly this needs to happen before chat will become even more messy than its now:

What we need it TABBED chat, a whole new system. This is the true suggestion which (unlike nerf/buff weapons etc. ) will benefit ALL PLAYERS since EVERYONE have contact with chat system.

Thats why chat should be divided into separate tabs, not just one big river of guild/tells/general/zones/trades

There will be separate tab for all of those channels. Like in chatbox. You click General and you see just what ppl talk on the speaking distance (no other thngs). You switch to trade and you have plain trade offers WTS/WTB/WWT. You go to tab guild for guildies.

There could be even tabs for /tells so you will keep conversation with certain person in one place. It would also eliminate problem when multiple persons are telling to you and you constantly keep /reply to wrong peorons.

Also we should be able to expand chat window. When we are not doing clockwors and we are in game just to chat or to track trade channel looking for things we want it would be good if we would be able to expand chat window.

Currently its too smal and claustrophobic. It seems that devs assumed that only thing that will appear on chat is "xxx winks" "xxx waves" from preconfigured commands/animations.

If one wants to have real conversation, one chat piece can cover more than half of current chat window, and to go back in conversaion you have to click the hell out of that small "go up" button. Which leads to next point:

- chat should have scroolbar

http://i39.tinypic.com/15oj6ah.png

This ^^ is just a simple sketch how it could look like. There would be a tab for every existing channel we have now, general, guild, trade. Also you would be able to open chat channels to certain persons (instead of using constantly tells or reply - useful when making conversation with multiple ppl at once). Also there should be possibility to add custom chat tab like /join Player1, player2, player10,trade,guild to open a chat tab that would show tells from players 1,2,10 and also posts from guild chat and trade chat.

Every tab could be closed and opened again. Instead of current up/down buttons there would be a scroll bar to prevent clicking in order to reach top of chat window. If chat window would be scolled all the way down to newest msge, it would stay that way tracking newest chat pieces. If you would start scroling up, it would now move and it wont go to newest chat piece unless you will scroll it all way down back to newest chat.

Also the little arrow directed to upper right corner just under scroll bar would be and "expand chat" button. It would be for those that are not really intrested about what is happening in game, but rather what is happening on chat. It would double the size of chatbox or even make it full screen to make it that most of longest chat pieces would take just one line instead of taking whole chat space (which is happening now). There could be also option to completly hide chat if you dont want anything to cover your screen.

The tab where you would recive a msg could blink somehow. It could be annoying for trade/general maybe guild chat but very helpful for multiple tell/private tabs opened. The appropriate tickbox for turning this on or off could be in settings/options.

Also the little tab with > arrow mark could be used to scroll tab bar, when you would have too much tabs opened to see them all at once.

And just like its now, if you join channel, you have to leave it manually, in TAB chat system the tabs you open once would not close (even if you log out) untill you close them by yourself (excluding /tell tabs with certain players).

After implementing tabbed chat there will be space to add more improvements.

Stop spamming every forum that relates to chat with you're tab system idea. MAKE you're own forum regarding that.

Uh

I just want scroll bar, nothing else.

I really think that if ye want to provide links on a chatbox, that will be seriously wrong, I looked into Kive's respond and he's right, there might be inapproriate themes and such do not suit teenagers below 18. Or somewhat.. gold sellers(happened before without web as well) providing links and attract attention to people...

Also on Juances's, think how many people will come into the forums and demand it to be removed later. Maybe less, maybe more. o.o

I have no idea what to speak for Asukalan's, but lots of MMORPG use that kind of chatbox. Here in SK is unique and.. maybe traditional? (i mean.. lol no), just without the scroll bar, makes it harder for us to see the previous chat again. I had once that I keep on clicking just to check a person selling something for maybe about 10 minutes of clicking. >_>

so.. -1 for links. terribly sorry, unless OOO provides another hud and has taken on Asukalan's and Extribble's(i hardly should agree with these 2 but w.e) idea, bulbs on our head and everyone.

WHEN I say spam I mean in the fact that you're idea is completely unrelated and you've been putting this into almost every thread that talks about chat. If someone were to send you a offer to a restaurant you never gone to in you're life I'd call that spam. You're idea relates nothing to what this thread is about.

@Thunderbog please make a thread about the chat scroll, I myself have had to click through for minutes just to see what my friend said a few minutes ago. I'D. fully support that thread.

Hardly unrelated

There's a reason why other MMOs use tabbed chat: it works, and is convenient to the players.

I can only think of one reason why tabbed chat might not be great in SK- screen real-estate is precious, so having a chat UI take up a chunk of the game window would be detrimental. However, there are plenty of solutions around that. Here's one solution that I like: retain the onscreen chat that we have, but also have a Chat Tab button that brings up a UI window with scrollbar-enabled tabs for each chat and clickable links (or at the very least, highlight-able for copy-paste). This is the best of both worlds- you have a compact, unobtrusive quick-summary of what is happening in chat at all times (what we have now), but if you miss something, or want to monitor a particular channel (like trade), you can do so easily.

New content is always appreciated, but one should also go for the low-hanging fruit (minor improvements that shouldn't take long but have a significant impact).
