All type of "Lichens" can be fused. E.g.: oilers, toxigels, quicksilvers etc. But they can do it only with similar lichens, when they fused in large quantity, they transformed into same elemented colony, that can throw & burrow elemented thorns, immune to related debuff, also probably use elemented special abilities. There'sn't freeze-themed lichens, instead of them are ice cubes, but for all the elements themed colonies, imho must be added.
Apropos: maybe unfortunately extincted "Slooms" somewhen will be discovered again, to get from then "Zee cores", which will be used to craft soporific weapons.
All type of "Lichens" must be capable to fused.

Just want to say, if you look at the files, the oiler baron is just a oiler with a crown on. Not a large oiler. So fusing into a oiler baron doesn't work.
However, everything else, +1. Facing a large quicksilver in UICMF :D
Toxoils fusing... NO. too scary. *hides under bed*
and void gels...could make the unknown passage even funner...

Not only should all lichens merge with others of the same type, they should merge with all types.
After all, we've seen what Toxoils can do.
All of the following should be able to merge:
shock - richochet
freeze - status causing mist on death
poison - status causing mist while alive
oil - trail of status causing puddles - 1 square wide no matter what lichen size
blast - countdown and exploson on death
rock - extra large health
soul - no knockback
And maybe sleep
Be very afraid of slimes.

Mercury voltonnes - Need
Oiler barons - Annoying, but need
Spiny toxilargo - Have, but needs to be formable from toxigels
Sloombargo - Had, Need again XD
