The guide is over on the Spiral Knights wiki

I've put this up to hopefully make it easier for those who have to point out when someone makes a poor suggestion. Feel free to add any tips to that page! (Hence, why its on the wiki.)

Good work!

Admins! Sticky this!

Also, if they are suggesting gears(weapons/armors) they could provide some art, so it will be easier to understand. It's their choice though.

Will add this asap!

I had made a thread just like this in the suggestion subforum and I got a "GTFO" from oatmonster. so now I feel like someone hasn't done a search. erm.

Durp...didn't do a search. I never ever saw something like this before...was it on the wiki? I put it on the wiki so if I ever go inactive (e.g. my computer explodes) then the guide won't just rot.

Lol yes a sticky would be nice on either Thunder's guide or mine. Also, I think it would be best to have this stuff on a wiki page. This is intended as something which everyone can edit, not just me or you, Thunder. Sooo, what that means is...

Would you mind if I took some things from your guide (when you find it) and put it on the page? Or you could do it if you wish.

ok. I've given up. I simply can't find it. not even google can.
anyway, it was a list of things that should not be suggested. like T4+ if your name is not Luguriu, new weapon mechanics without explanation, anything without detail ect. I may find rtime to re-do that list one day.

Hmm, while it's a good idea, Thunder, it still isn't quite what my guide is. However, it would be a sweet thing to have on the wiki. The only problem is that it seems a tad like name'n'shame, which is against the rules. I'm going to include a similar list but not with the links. Feel free to argue with me on this point.

mmm

fact is, I used links to get some proof. meaning one can't whine "it's only you not the others". maybe having some links to sceenshots of answers of luguriu is enough.

Maybe...would it suffice to include a few excerpts or maybe sum up the reasoning behind why it's generally not a good thing to suggest? I don't want to have something like "YOU MUST NOT POST THIS THIS THIS AND THIS OR THAT THAT AND THAT" because once I actually saw someone suggest a very very plausible way to remove the energy cost off elevators but still make it so energy is something you'll usually want to have when exploring. (And not just for revives, either.) Some ideas can be very very clever and I'd like to see those ideas.

Might I suggest making some exemplar threads which showcase the problems with the particular suggestion on your list. Maybe even start a series titled "How not to:" wherein you show how not to write a suggestion for a particular subject.

Ah, hello Ghret!

Heh, while I have many other projects at the time, I was thinking something like that would be good, as in to flesh out this guide. Assuming you aren't a Steam player, you can easily log into the wiki and change the page yourself, or even make one yourself. I'd rather have all this stuff on the wiki because it's much easier to maintain it that way.

Hey, Autofire: I really like

Hey, Autofire:

I really like your guide, and I'd like to sticky your thread and maybe even point at your guide in the regular forum rules. Here's the thing--if I do that, I'd need to set the wiki page to protected so that it couldn't be replaced with ASCII genitalia by some mischievous scamp out to deface an official-ish document. But then you wouldn't be able to edit it.

Would you be ok if I set it to protected, if you could suggest edits? Would you rather I leave it alone and not sticky it instead? Some other thing? Let me know.

Irony detected!

After reading that, I found there is an irony in it, but I can't say it because I don't want to be hated if something unfortunate happens. Don't know if anyone else noticed it.

@Eury

I've looked at the HTML of the forums; aren't they, too, pretty vulnerable? I'm quite curious about it, really. Do you have any rules regarding breaking the HTML and putting in pics/videos/stuff? Pretty sure a certain someone did put a picture of the Swedish chef in a post somewhere around the forums ;)

Nothing in the forum rules states anything about it, anyway.

It may be possible to assign Autofire as part of a special usergroup within the wikia. There you will be able to give him (and yourself) editing permissions for that page by allowing only the SysOp and Autofire usergroup to edit it when it is put under Protect staus.

Pro:
Only Admins and Autofire will be able to edit the page.

Con:
Requires in-depth knowledge of wiki code to implement.
Knowledge gained appears to only be applicable in this specific situation.
High chance of turning the wiki into a smouldering wreck of code with Nick standing there looking at the burning servers with a look of disbelief whilst everyone else curse the name, "Boswick!"

The wiki isn't vandalized that much... I don't think not having it protected would be that big of a problem.
