Notably, Calibur suffers from the Recon class (at least partially, it lands at +1 in the end), while bombs gain a great deal.

The blast bomb is alright, but anyone who knows what they're doing can easily walk in the bomb radius, hit you and walk back out before it even explodes. So pure blast bombing, especially in 1v1, situations isn't always that viable. Now blast bombing with some other bomb such as vap is much better because the "pattern" is less obvious

Comparing the Calibur line to the Blast Bomb line is comparing apples to oranges. Calibur is a direct damage weapon, while Blast Bomb is a crowd control weapon. Dropping repeated Blast Bombs while running around is an effective enough way to keep those pesky Skolvers off your point, even more so if you've got another guy helping you out (mainly by shooting at them from within the radius or by attacking them while they're off the point). Try delaying your next blast bomb if they're predicting your charge times; it may catch them off guard.
