New heat system was implemented in order to balance out free elevators. After playing a bit this evening I heated up three 5* items so they would have level up, if new system wasn't introduced. As a Vanguard I got a bunch of Fire Crystals plus I got some while playing (prestige daily mission twice and full T3 arcade run) - yet I was only able to level up two from those heated up items (of course I chose 100% success option both times). So now I'm either stop levelling up items or I'm gonna buy some Fire Crystals with energy. I have a bunch of almost heated items (different star ranks and levels) so I doubt that I will have a surplus of Fire Crystals any time soon - I will always be somewhat short of them.
So, what exactly was wrong with Heat?
Am I one of the few who doesn't find it that much of a nuisance? Besides being unable to use boss lairs for reliable Heat because the Forge needs an Arsenal station to use it in the Clockworks - something a boss lair doesn't have except at the very beginning. Gives incentive to do Arcade runs instead though.
- Forces you to use the Arcade/other missions as optimal places to heat, instead of boss missions (Arsenal Stations on every level).
- Delays the completion of a 5*, to draw out the process and make sure people can't just rush through it.
- Gives 5* items more value since it's harder to level them, I suppose.

I hear you will be able to forge above level 10 in a later patch. Is this true?
And the forge is just a secondary method you could use to level gear. You don't have to do it. Nobody is forcing you.
I don't like the new system either, but I understand it. To balance out the unlimited play that allows you to beat the game in about 7 hours, they created this system which stops you.
I absolutely hate the new heat system with all my heart but at the same time I can see why it's there:
+ It forces people to grind in the arcades or in non-boss missions to make heating go smoothly as it can be, preferably in levels where the appropriate fire crystal drops
+ balances out the fact that elevators are now free (using ce to run more levels after mist was out -vs- running more levels on the same stratum for more crystals or just buying them outright with energy).
-It's really, REALLY tedious: from having to go to the forge every time you need to level up your weapon to having to collect a metric ton of crystals to level because it's safer to just pour the maximum number of them to prevent a failure (which gets really insane on the higher levels). It's worse when you need to heat multiple things at once.
-It takes way longer to do compared to before, with many more steps, one that can fail if you risk it by trying to save resources.
I am glad I crafted and heated pretty much every armor, weapon and shield I wanted before this update: it would have driven me bonkers doing it now.

You have to use the forge to level your gear.
If I have to deal with this.... I won't want to do a quitting thread, but I may have to do the straw that broke the camel's back.

Misunderstood there. So that probably why the little star icon (for the forge) keeps popping up from time to time.
I hope I'm not the only one but I kinda like the new heating system. It makes you travel into stratums you wouldn't normally go in and there also slight perks. Kinda makes you experience the game more instead of monotonous farming.

Same here. The only thing that I don't like is that it's like a gambling system. A chance where you get your weapon heated where the other chances are where you waste your heat crystals.
Go and do a gate WITH a boss strata?
And really, If you want the stuff in bulk, especically as of the decrease in stuff, you will still need CE.
What was wrong with the standard heat stuff? My heat, if it reaches a level, just dissapates. waste. Or random fails.
So wait. It's a gamble? Couldn't you just look at the chance of forge rate success?

I completely agree. I think more crystals should equal more perks, not more of a chance that your weapon will level up

Instead of farming for crowns/ce,now you're farming for fire crystals.It's no different than before.
Since crafting is effectively free now, I believe fire crystals are intended to be the new energy sink.
4* fire crystals, to be precise.
