Note: Please, if I've somehow "stole" an idea from someone else, just say so, don't burn me at the stake. I hardly get on the forums and when I do it's for the Bazaar. So hope you guys enjoy the idea and offer up some constructive criticism.
SO! A DLC Bundle pack. This is going to be a feature for not only steam users, but be available to purchase on the Spiral Knights in-game store (where you buy CE). The Bundle is going to feature a number of DLC missions (similar to Operation Crimson Hammer) and the series will be known as "The Collapse of the Crimson Hammer."
There will be sub-section within the DLC where you can select OCH and the others. Then when you select it, you go into another subsection where you can select Tier 1, 2, or 3.
Open Menu --> Missions, Prestige, DLC, Arcade ---> DLC Missions ---> OCH Tiers ---> OCH T3 (and so on)
What I'd like to see for the missions are fighting members of the Crimson Order, thus liberating the Gremlins from their respective leaders. So for example, those Gremlins who followed Seerus, would assist you by giving you the Rocket Hammer and Dark Retribution. While these are mission rewards, they are weapons that will assist in fending off the mobs of another mission. So, lore is Seerus created the Roarmulus Twins and a lot of mechanized mobs. So the Rocket Hammer would prove useful in the fight against Seerus' army. While the Dark Retribution would help destroy the toxioils and other toxic/venomous slimes of Herex. By defeating Herex, or any other Crimson Order member, you gain mission rewards/weapons and armor.
I believe they should feature a long mission (Like OCH) and a shorter mission (only unlocked after completing the first mission of that sub-series) where you'll have to finally defeat Seerus "for good." Either this pattern or have several "long missions" and then feature a final fight against all the Crimson Order.
Now before any freaks out, remember the Gremlins you helped liberate? While the Crimson Order may seem daunting, the gremlins find ways to help sabotage their armor or weapons. This helps balance the playing field so while you're fighting a cluster of gremlin bosses, they're not too hard or easy to defeat. When you defeat the Crimson order, only one escapes while the rest are "Defeated." Lord Tinkinzar escapes to continue to lead the Gremlins, but a large portion of the Gremlins manage to escape and flee to Emberlight, expanding it more and offering some bonus features.
Within Emberlight, you can find an area known as "The Trials." If anyone has ever played Halo's Firefight, CoD's Nazi Zombies, or Gears of Wars' Horde mode, this is similar. "How unoriginal" some of you may say, but this would allow you to fight against random waves of various mobs. You pay 500 Crowns to start "the Trials" and begin. The rewards are mainly Crowns. While providing some heat and mats, the main incentive is the crowns, but upon completing "a set" (a series of 5 waves), you get an Ember Token. You can redeem these tokens to get weapons, armor, recipes (I haven't really decided since this is such a huge idea) that are exclusive to facing "the Trials."
Another mechanic of the Trials would be the allotted amount of emergency revives. To avoid using player's sparks of life (considering you could keep playing endlessly so long as you have the SoL's for it), there will be 3 Emergency revives per player and they are all shared in a massive pool, with one revives granted (per player) for completing a Set. Sure, you bring someone in who isn't stellar, they may end up using all the revives, but this makes you want to form "the ultimate team." There will be a leaderboard featuring top 3 solo players and top 3 duos, trios, and full teams. There will be a number of waves completed, considering this would be the easiest way to keep track. The waves will obviously get harder (either the enemies get a slightly stronger or heart drop rates decline slightly).
This will obviously be a big patch and/or a series of small ones, but I really hope you guys enjoyed this idea. I'm not sure how to balance all of this, but this is just one big series of ideas that I think would help make Spiral Knights more interesting for not only veterans, but a way to train new players to get better. Also considering that LD and BN are the only ways to judge who's "the best" at PvP, this makes it so people who excel in PvE have a chance for "bragging rights."
Again, thanks for reading, please offer constructive comments/arguments and all of this came from me and the people I talk to on Spiral Knights. So if I've come up with something similar to previous ideas, I have not read them. But if they've offered something better overall or some balancing ideas that could help mine, a link would be appreciated! :D
To defeat 1 or 2 members of the order like seerus is ok. But getting rid of everyone, tinkizar included, is something you'd want on the game as part of the original story. DLC should be optional "side stories".
This clashes with your emberlight expansion. Those that can't afford the DLC won't even understand what's going on.
