I can't seem to feed my battle sprite anything but the first time i got him i managed to feed him a few items but now when i try with full hunger he wont let me feed him anything is that a new glitch/bug or am I just doing it wrong?

I've tried that he just hit the end of level one but i can't feed him the mote to level him up

This should explain everything
From the Battle Sprite Wiki:
"To feed a sprite, bring up the character panel and select the Battle Sprite tab, then click on your Battle Sprite's icon. Choose any material from the Arsenal to feed the sprite."
"In order for a Battle Sprite to advance and level up, a required item will need to be fed to the Battle Sprite."
Sounds like he needs to level up, feed him a Power/Divine/Shadow Mote.
