Alot of people have been arguing over the Mad Bomber and Chaos sets, and it isn't pretty.

Not one bit.

There are hardly any options to solving this without much whining, but the only option I have in mind.. .

. .. is implementing a basic attack to bombs!

-

Q: But how will that change anything?

A: It won't change the situation until you apply an Bomb Attack Speed bonus to Mad Bomber, which improves it's purpose for bombers!
Now, the attack speed is going to affect a basic attack cooldown of sorts.

-

Q: How will basic attacks affect bombs?

A: The bombs would have a highly reduced AOE range, mostly reduced damage, and sometimes effects. Vaporizers would only deal elemental damage, with a very much reduced chance of status effects, and leave no mist field. Shard bombs wouldn't spread, but they hit multiple times. Blast Bombs have reduced knockback. Graviton has it's final explosion but with reduced knockback. Et Cetera.

ohey Zerokk.

Unfortunately, this is a bad idea. What you're suggesting would basically turn every bomb into a mini-FoV. Blatant cross-classing like that is why the old Shard Bomb design was taken out behind the woodshed. Plus it's a major paradigm shift for a relatively confined issue. (Not to imply that Chaos being overpowered is specific to bombing, of course.)

Basically to stop the argument without fudging up everything else you'd need to either buff Mad Bomber to make it better than Chaos for bombers (but no one else) or nerf Chaos into the dirt so that it's worse than Mad Bomber. (Actually, it's probably a good idea to nerf Chaos anyway even if Mad Bomber is buffed.)

Wouldn't this actually help everyone but dedicated bombers?

-Bomber with Volcanic demo and max ctr: "look how fast I charge!"
-Wolver clone with a blast bomb, zero ctr: *clic clic clic clic clic clic* *spams enough mini bombs to outdamage a regular charge*

I'm stuck between too powerfull or so nerfed it's not usefull at all.
You need a limit to prevent that.

You must learn this

One person will never stop an argument altogether on the internet. Most if not all arguments on the internet never resolve (a.k.a. agree on the same thing).

Like say, me.

I honestly think this is a stupid idea. Actually, one of the most stupid ideas I've seen to remedy this situation. You want to implement a WHOLE NEW MECHANIC just because one set of armor is categorically better than another. If something in a game is OP/UP you change the item in question, not the whole game. In this case, since one set of armor has categorically better stats than another, you then nerf the stats of the more powerful one/buff the stats of the weaker one.

As for the new mechanic, this isn't a good idea. You want to balance one thing, in vain, and in turn create a much larger imbalance. The basic attack for bombs would be astronomically harder to balance than a couple of stat adjustments.

Yeah, it's way more complex

Yeah, it's way more complex and far-reaching than is appropriate for the stated purpose. Hm. Put that way, it sounds frightfully plausible. I suspect that LD is the real reason we lost sharpnel-flinging bombs and split-abNormal damage types, esp. in light of Zeddy's discovery that resistances modify damage additively rather than multiplicatively on a per-hit basis.

I do like the idea of adding a non-charged attack, but of a different kind and for different reasons. The idea of using a comically oversized live bomb as a blunt weapon amuses me, so I think it would be great fun to beat the living daylights out of Gremlin Demos using a Spineapple; show 'em how to waste fewer valuable munitions. 😈 I'm imagining something relatively fast and furious, with modest damage- kinda like the Jelly guns, but with even poorer reach and knockdown than any sword. That would also handily address the inconvenience of dedicated bombers having to spend a lot of time breaking up ore spires and obstacular blocks.
