i know this might be funny but cool make shields deal the damage that they shield against example: dread skelly would do shadow and normal ps this is only on shield bash this is to make it more popular

shield bash should do more damage for the same reason as the top suggestion

Making them deal what they defend against is silly, because only constructs and beasts would be weak offensively and defensively. Having to lose out on offense or defense just because of a shield's typing, rather than its design, is pretty lame.

"Making sense" should always be benched in favor of "fun gameplay", whenever you have to choose between them.

Does it make sense for the Ironmight Plate Shield to deal piercing damage?
If plate mail is resistant to slashing attacks and chainmail resistant to piercing, does that make it so if you hit an enemy with that armor it would do slashing and piercing damage respectively?
If you're going to used the flawed "hey guys but it'd make sense" argument, then at least make sure it acually makes sense.

What? 'this already in game!
Most shields have half normal defense. Bash deals normal damage (we hit with the normal side)

It's just that dragon scale is bugged....

It's a joke.

Dragon Scale is the only shield without normal defense and thus the only one that would need a change.

Yeah its what the programmers intended the shields defense would be , piercing and elemental, look at the rest of the dragon scale set its elemental and piercing no normal why would they make the shields defense different then the rest of its set by accident?

Read my other post and try again. Bashing with a dragon scale shouldn't do normal damage.
All the other shields bash with normal damage because they have half normal defense.

That's the 'bug'. Dragon scale should bash with elemental or piercing.

Normal damage is synonymous with "Generic Blunt Melee Damage", while pure damage is energy, or in the case of piercing, damage that punctures rather than concusses/crushes.
Dragon Scale shield would make sense to deal piercing or elemental damage due to its appearance, but since it's a solid object, doing normal damage is still logical, and therefore can't be labelled as a bug.

I shouldn't have to make a BTB just to do good damage with my bashes against Wolvers. Or an Aegis.

Also, the reason why Dragon Scale Shield won't work is on the same boat as the old Ionized Salt Bomb.

Videogames don't "make sense."

This wouldn't work for most shields. Think about the Skelly Shield, for instance: You'd either use it for defense against Undeads/Fiends and have no use for the shield bash, or you'd use it against Slimes/Gremlins for offense and have no defensive use for it, which kinda defeats the purpose of a shield anyway.

Videogames do make sense. They just have a set of rules and "game logic" that the developers choose either voluntarily or involuntarily when they implement features (or bugs). Common game universe "laws" are labeled as tropes, and are accepted as normal.
Everything in videogames makes sense and can be explained, just not always in the way you'd expect.
