Abstract: A discussion on OOO's fetish with cranking out recycled (content) or half-[scrapped] promotions.

Thesis: I'm okay with ~monthly promotions/events as their elevator pass business is dead but the nature in which they do it is so unsettling.

Like the images suggest, new trinkets. Not overpriced recycled trinkets. New. Hot off the press. Long time fans of this game are sick of seeing things recycled and pawned off as NEW! GREAT DEAL, WHILE INVENTORY LASTS! ...sorry to be honest.

My ideas (which were well received in another thread - only wrote the first 4)

+Movement Speed
+Shield Health
-Dash/Shield Bash Cooldown
+Mineral Carrying Capacity
+Quicker heating
+Shield occasionally pulses with a status effect when in use.

Anyway, thoughts?

Maybe pet cooldown reduction trinket? So we have four new trinkets...

Also, I would make sure the trinket from the promotion were eventually offered in game later.

listen pal, there is a suggestion subforum for a reason. if you don't move it, probably the admins will.
to the suggestion. ok to move speed, shield health. I don't see why not on the dash cooldown. mineral carrying sounds OP, what does it mean? quicker heating, buy a heat amplifier. shield are used for defense, not attack. I really don't know why they called barrier those new pickups. at least drakon gives a damage boost.

The first half of the thread is not a suggestion - it is bringing up a valid point that the images used were bogus and the promotion was pointless.

The second half is a suggestion because one cannot criticize something without providing their opinions on how to fix it.

It is how we operate in the writing group I attend.

You don't say, "I don't like this." and leave it at that. You say why and give advice/opinions.

That would be fine for general discussion .

But when I say I don't like something, say why, say what I would change and ask for a discussion pertaining to the general wellbeing of Spiral Knights and their money income, that doesn't belong in general discussion.

I actually like the promo system, its far better than the ones in other games. The variety of available items has been going up since the Sprite Update, and we're getting a lot of cool unique gear (I think only the dangerous boxes had recolors, and those were redesigned enough that I give them a pass). OOO has been resisting the temptation to put exclusive gear in the boxes and sticking with costumes and retextures, which is a nice change from the "check out this this sweet new ultra-powerful weapon! Guess what, you're only way to obtain is via box roulette!" system that infests so many other F2P games. I despise it when games do that (viable revenue stream or not), and am glad OOO does things differently.

If you want OOO to start putting new, stated gear in the boxes, thats fine, as long as they also make that stuff craftable.

Best of both worlds is to have them as temporarily exclusive items. You get players who want that temporary edge to spend money, and you allow the rest of the player base to get the awesome loot free to play, which makes them want to stick with the game and eventually potentially become paid subscribers.

Just because you are mad because of the lack of original content being added to the game does not justify being a scumbag to every forumer on this website. I have never seen you on this website until today. And I've been around since I started playing Spiral Knights. If you're going to be that guy, then please, do yourself a favor. Save the raging for Tier 3 Lockdown. And turn around like Sir Robin. I myself am upset with the total lack of response from OOO staff, and how perhaps the most important forum has not seen an admin comment for...gosh, I don't think the suggestions forum has EVER gotten a staff comment. But this doesn't mean I can violate the rules and start saying that we all "suck."

Listen, this belongs in suggestions, just like how a carrot isn't a fruit, and doesn't belong in a fruit bin. Even if the first part isn't a suggestion.

Still, I'm all up for newer trinkets. The last 3 are odd...which status would the shield pulse with? How could I carry more minerals? Why would I ever want a Heat Amp once I have the quicker heating? (Okay, I don't want a Heat Amp right now anyway...) The rest look cool. HOWEVER, at the same time, not everyone wants to craft these 5* trinkets, yet it interested in getting them. That's why people are probably buying into this promotion.

I bought two boxes so I could get the trinkets I wanted without having to spend time and krogmo coins getting them. Its actually a pretty good deal to buy the boxes rather than save up and craft, the cost difference is only about 50 E.

I've only recently gotten T3 clearance, and need the orbs to upgrade my gear. Besides, if you buy a box and get something you don't want, you can always trade it for one you do (this is what I had to do to get my elite quickdraw, but my GM is an awesome dude and agreed to craft me one in exchange for a trinket I didn't want).

You know you can buy Mod calibrators off the AH, right?

Defense trinkets are probably unpopular because they seem weak, not to mention offensive goals are usually easier to achieve than defensive goals due to a fairly small offense stack. That being said the Sprite perk versions are handy from time to time, the status perks give 1.5x more resist than a 5* trinket. I use the Shock, Poison and Freeze perks in the relevant danger missions to grant minor immunity (Shock hi Seerus+Shock perk/Fire Hi Seerus+Poison Max Fallen+Poison perk/Freeze med Kat eye+Freeze perk).

Lan, I see what you are saying re: not a suggestion. To me, this isn't a suggestion, but your possible solutions (as has been noted prior) are. I'll also toss this out there: the majority of the forum community sucks. It is filled with whinging children, and it drives me nuts. I abstain from posting a vast majority of the time, unless a mature/intelligent post has been made. Sadly, members like this are few and far between.

This subforum is usually the exception, at least with regards to responses. THere are some less than stellar suggestions that are made, but traditionally the responses are somewhat constructive.

If i may make a suggestion for the future. Instead of simply saying "suggestion sub forum", try saying it politely. Example: Perhaps this post would be better suited to the suggestions sub-forum. I know we see many misplaced posts over the course of the day, but a little tact goes a long way.

And fact of the matter, what the original poster typed WAS a suggestion. His first half of the post was background information that led into his suggestion (a.k.a. + movement speed, etc.).

We, as a whole, are not showing any disrespect, or "crap", as you so fluently put it, towards Lan. We are simply defending ourselves against Lan's post. After Bitsbee's post, Lan used Jesus's name in vain, and cursed out at the community. We were not attacking him, only defending ourselves.

And now that Lan and ourselves are at an understanding, let's just continue on with the main topic of the thread instead of bringing other things up, shall we?

@Bits - You were passive aggressive and contributed nothing to the discussion. So many do that and it is sickening. Others said, wrong section but I like the ideas. Word.

And yes, the second half is a suggestion because you are not supposed to hate something without providing feedback on what to change. Plenty of threads turn into suggestion threads and remain in the General Discussion section. The entire point of my thread is to make OOO money by pointing out the lackluster promotions/misleading/bland/reskinned promotions that have plagued us forever. I have the "GENERAL" interest of Spiral Knights in mind so I wanted to start a "DISCUSSION."

@Terra - Was the "/endrage" not enough of a clue to realize that I was A: ticked off at Bits' lame reply and B: sarcastic in that I was acknowledging my own rage?

That is all, be offended, be thankful, be merry, and I hope to see more creative promotions/content coming out way so we have more of a reason to continue to support OOO.

The general distaste towards suggestions placed in the general discussion subforum is that many forumers do so in order to gain more attention for their ideas, or because they think it "deserves to be there" or something along those lines. As you can see, your thread is already the second most popular thread commented on in the last 24 hours in the suggestions subforum. A similar hostility is silently withheld with threads that have a shadow copy in the general discussion, but nobody says anything because it could have been a GM who performed the thread move.
When people go to General Discussion, they want to discuss/complain/whatever about the game, they don't want to think about silly things that others would like in the game. Not saying your idea is silly, but a lot of the stuff that goes through Suggestions Subforum is silly.

also, on the suggestion thing. if you whine about something, or if you say something is wrong, you are impling that it should be changed. if you say only "it's bad" it's not a suggestion, nor a discussion, it's just one more whiner. if you give reasons and want to see what others think of your reason, and you also know that it's either not easily fixable or you have no ideas, go to general discussion, then move to suggestions. if you already say how to fix a problem, you suggest a way to fix (unless you think it's the only possible way, but I don't think anybody would post something like that and survive for the next 5 mins on the forum, or any forum, or the internet in general) so it's a suggestion and you must post it into the suggestion subforum.
general discussion it's not to say things are broken, is to discuss mechanics, post silly things about SK, promoting glitches, whining about servers, or whining in general before your thread sinks to the bottomless pit of the 7th page. or to necro. GD is a good place to necro things.

@OP: I agree, I was really bummed when the details for the promo were released as I similarly anticipated there being NEW trinkets. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I haven't bothered with weap or trinket slots in a very long time as you just don't need the extra oomph to deal with anything currently in-game. I would, however, have totally opened my wallet for something genuinely new--and I think a lot of other players would have joined me in that, particularly for a +2 MSI trink to finally get to MAX. This current promo is a huge missed opportunity for OOO; I just can't imagine many players partaking.

I like the idea of "Mineral Carrying Capacity" trinket. It could double output of minerals for an owner after every level (including minerals picked up by other party member). Would it be OP? Maybe. Still I would definitely wear such a thing.

Also +1 for Movement Speed, Dash Cooldown and Shield Health trinkets. Probably Shield Regeneration trinket would be easier to create since we already got such mechanism with Seraphynx. But I know nothing about coding so I might be totally wrong.

For mineral capacity I was thinking, 4* gives you +1 Mineral, 5* gives you +2 Minerals. You don't actually carry multiple.

This stems from my idea years ago to do a Mining Line. Mining Hat that can be leveled up to 5* and some sort of mining armor to compliment. Gives you a +x amount of minerals per tier, per armor.

They said the minerals are powerful in the game description! But they are not. Still not. Just used differently now and they can't be sold so arguably they are even less valuable.

Tempted to create a new thread about minerals....
