Well, I've been with this game for around 3 years (participated in 3 halloween events so yea) now and Im AGAIN having these annoying lagspiking issues with this game. (I cant count how many times these have occured to me over the lifespan of this game.) The lagspikes occur very predictable every 5 or so seconds. EDIT1: Nope, lagspikes become more frequent the longer the game is active, it's now at every 2 seconds. EDIT2: It is now at a steady lagspike every 1 second. The lagspike itself is a 0.5 seconds screen freeze. EDIT3: It started happening every split second before it eventually crashed my java client.
Using Java 64-bit client with the Steam version of the game. EDIT5: Was using Java 7 U25 (Gonna update both 32-bit and 64-bit to U45 now for a sec to see if the error still persists)
Settings:
Windowed mode 1366x768
Graphics Quality High
Render Effects Enabled
AA 2x
It mainly started occuring after I did the Slenderma- I mean Apocrea mission. (Occured during the mission so yea, try dodging those tentacles with lagspiking.)
btw. The current memory usage in the taskmanager is 926MB for the java client if that is relevant. EDIT4: Memory usage right before crash was 935MB.
A friend and I had the same issue on the Grasping Plateau. I fired up a diagnostic tool and it showed that the game was inching against its memory limit. It appears to be a memory leak that grows while you're on the plateau, and disappears when you go into another type of level.
The short-term solution is to boost the JVM's available memory. I use the Steam version, so I created an "extra.txt" file with "-Xmx1000M" in it. It seemed to work out for both me and my friend. If you run it some other way, you'll have to check to add it there.
Obviously, that doesn't solve the actual leak, but it'll keep you afloat long enough to finish your run. :)
Installing a later version of the Oracle JVM would work as well, because later versions seem to automatically grow/shrink their memory as required.
