Hello all, Young and Matured and some old.

I should introduce myself, I've been a long time supporter of Spiral Knights and love how far its gotten, but I'm sure many people out there tend to lose interest of the games we play. I've been playing since the the game first started and have loved where most of the developers have taken the game, although you did mess up the GUI at one point, but your trying something new and its forgivable, I'm sure its improved since then.
I haven't played in some months but I do think back sometimes about how much i've enjoyed this game, flaws and all and sometimes how much money I've drowned my character in at times, but with all that said and done, the game is pretty much done for me.

Maybe its the mindless need to try and pull a guild together when your no longer interested in the game itself, or the lack of actually doing something story wise in the game. For the lack of the better part I really enjoyed the subtle story but ended struggling in some of the later missions where I simply cannot progress without some elite gear or have a full team. But I'm not here to tell you that this game is unfair at parts. I'm here to suggest something in the long run, something inevitable.

The shutting down of the servers, this is an inevitable problem that Spiral Knights will face in the coming future, maybe a year, maybe 5. Hopefully never but any reasonable person knows all good things come to an end. What I'm here to propose is second life for Spiral Knights, So maybe print this idea up and store it for when that day comes. With the shutting down of the server, it's not the end of Spiral Knights.
You may have a chance to negotiate with your higher ups or marketing, who ever is in charge with a final show for Spiral Knights and a chance to redeem itself in a new life.

Spiral Knights could become the New Co-op Bastion game, Selling the game on Steam for people to enjoy playing their characters in a more RPG style game Like Magika or Torchlight, who knows? it could be something amazing.
The Biggest hurdle with this would be convincing the higher-ups that its worth giving a shot. so it might be helpful to ask ahead of time so when that call comes, it wont be so much of a show stopper but a graceful fall and resurrection.

Many of you would probably flame or rant about how silly this is, but this is a realistic side of life and most times when that call comes, there is no plan for after.
and this suggestion, when that day comes, I actually look forward too.

I would love to play an RPG style game of Spiral knights with my friends in a drop in/out style of co-op gameplay. As for the current Spiral Knights, I'm over it, the MMO side of it and its 'needs' to be active in a community (guilds) has more of a drain then the repetitive game-play can make worth while.
There's something about mmo's that just eats your soul/spirit and turns people like me away from them after a while.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

practically, when the game will stop, you want OOO do do an RPG based on it? well, ok, if the time comes by, and if OOO will have the resources.
someone can explain me the "new co-op Bastion game" thing? I don't think I understand fully.

I want to know what you mean by "co-op Bastion game" too.
Aside from that, I would like to see a more RPG version of this game as well. It sounds cool enough to be a sequel, and we could choose to start off anew or continue with our current equipment.

Co-op bastion game was

Co-op bastion game was referring to the dungeon crawling top down game that's built all around a full RPG story while maintaining a full drop in and out coop experience like Torchlight 2 which would use client side servers (minecraft or terraria style) which could be integrated into steam friends list

OOO has the resources and content already, but what lacks from this game, is a story driven game play.
Spiral Knights is a mindless dungeon run game. it showed promise of a well earned story early on but that vanished into scenario's that appear once in a blue moon.

what OOO needs, is a grace period to make this game, if that call ever comes in, the people calling the shots most likely wont have time to do anything, but if they negotiate now, ahead of time, it could be a lead to the next big thing.

anyone ever played Torchlight 2? you have to give it a go, specially with friends.
I would love to see Spiral knights head down that direction with late game DLC and built with friends over MMO
but only time will tell.

When you're this swag this world just bows at your knees

FYI it's called a "Diablo Clone". Anything with that partying, class-system, mana and health is generally loosely compared to a Diablo Clone. It's more evident in games like Torchlight and FATE, but it also applies mildly to games like Dungeon Defenders.

FYI mature people discussing

FYI mature people discussing games and genre's don't stick to 'diablo clone'

in fact by your own logic you could say Spiral Knights is already a Diablo Clone, Diablo has a poor weak campaign and last i heard Diablo 3 was a major flop compared to competitors.

if you want to compare games, know the difference first, just because games share similarities doesn't make them the same.

So? Just because Blizzard made Diablo, doesn't mean that Diablo 3, a "Diablo Clone" will be as good as the original.

The difference between Bastion and Spiral Knights is that Spiral Knights is randomly generated. It's easy to make a very straightforward campaign when all you have to do is railroad your players along a strict path, that never changes no matter how many times you play it. Doesn't mean it's good. Just it's easy to make.

so you are actually talking about Bastion?
I finished it a bit of time ago (look at my title line) so I know what I'm talking about.
Bastion is a very well made game, and the challenges on the enviroment are both quite easy to make and quite challenging at the end. as hex said, a campaign story with randomly generated maps cannot lead to anything close. you will end up with only some scenario rooms and the monsters of each tier to spice up the game. if we want a story campaign, OOO would have to: get rid of the randomness to make up enviroment challenges (the one that jumps up in my mind is the room in aurora isles: low gardens with all those puppies), remake the defense/health system to something more important than what we have, rebalance the gear, and some other things, but finally, the big one: the four tabs of the mission panel. the arcade could end up as a survival mode, but prestige and OCH? some prestige missions and the grand arsenal are unique in design, and you should fit in those in the story campaign cause it would be dumb not to do so. only one mission in the mission panel brings up that enviroment, and it's t1. and I'm not touching the story ect. cause, well, that's kind of a mess.
SK has the potential to be a good RPG, really, but it's kind of complicated to unleash it.

Meh

It's a good idea to turn SK into a RPG, but i kinda think it's a bit early to be talking about this now with the way you propose it. The game isn't shutting down yet, and i hope it doesn't anytime soon. That being said, i would definitely support this once Spiral Knights DOES shut down.
