So I feel I have been playing this game for some time now, and I rarely ever saw any sort of marketing for Spiral Knights. I am not even sure if you guys even have a marketing team, or a marketing budget. (If you don't I can point you in the direction to a few nice marketing firms, or even help you guys out for FREE!!)

Now why do I bring this up:

This game has a pretty solid concept now with the removal of the whole ce for elevators (lifts). The Devs have a product which isn't finished, and does need work, but it is stable enough to grabs a gamers eye. I think it is time Sega/Three Rings starts cashing in on their investment, and we all know to make money you need to invest a little. So folks please invest some money in advertising for Spiral Knights (ON WEBSITES PEOPLE USE). This game is great what it lacks is a marketing team to really push you guys over the edge.

If you do have a marketing team:

Please check on what progress they are doing for Spiral Knights since you may be paying them for just sitting on their rear!

I've seen the ads back in

I've seen the ads back in 2011, but judging from the desperate promos and sparse staff team I think things aren't going well for their company.

I think we all know that by now if SK isn't anything like CoD it will never be popular no matter the amount of ads invested in, it has been proven, look at all the CoD clones out there, killzone, Battlefield, medal of honor, call of Jaurez, dead space 3 and even my METAL GEAR SOLID V is turning into a shooting gallery (you can check the demo on utube, it makes me sad). All of them trying to bite something out of the CoD pie, and I am sure more of my favourite childhood past will be CoD-fied in the next few years.

"No, people now days prefer cheap indie games like SK with unique style."

TBH, that is a lie, indie game is still at its infancy, and some of them, IMHO, have tried way too hard to be original, games such as brutal legend and pysconauts never got a good sale due to its originality. I would not be suprised if someone come up with a game that can put spiral knights into a more milliterised universe, where they are still dark skinned with clowing eyes, but they are more like the bad arse space marines that they were intended to be. Imagining this, you, in 1st person view, shooting Gremlins that are bum rushing you, if they get close, you can start meleeing like you may do in DMC.

And also, they should make a more condensed story, a story filled with a decent amount of drama, one liners and of course an epic 3 part final boss would also be nice.

"That story sounds cliche as ****, no one is ever going to buy it."

Yet millions purchased CoD:ghost in its first day of release just so they can piss off 5 year olds on Xbox One (dumbest name for a console, period). And why would you ever buy one game ten times? (CoD I, II, III, MW, WaW, MW2, BO, MW3, BO2, Ghost) The thing is, there is a reason why some cliche are always practiced. Why good guys always beat bad guys? Coz it is in human nature to hope to see good triumph over evil, why didn't Satan beat his counter part Michael and destroy humanity? He was theoratically stronger than Michael? The thing is, people like to see good guys kick butt and chew bubble gums, so why not give them what they want?

"Still, how can they make SK into a first peron shooter/hack n' slash hybrid?"

Some camera angle tweeks, some bullet casings, fragment partiles, some blood splatter, good voice acting and put in a shallow weapon/class upgrade system DAM, you got yourself a new game. Now advertise it, it would make money, I promise. :)

I posted something about this

I posted something about this before... EVEN CLASH OF CLANS HAS A TV COMMERCIAL NOW... *calms down* *breathing slows* .... The only reason this game hasn't died yet is because of word of mouth, nobody knows about it. GET IT TO THE MASSES. NOW!

I got some school friends to start playing the game, but when I first told them about it, they were liek, "wtf is this game? i've never heard of it... it must sukk." But after playing a couple days, they were more liek, "MUST. PLAY. SPIRALKNIGHTS."
So ya, advertise the game more. We need more LD players for PvP guilds ;(

What is there to market?

No, seriously. Aside from a unique art style, what is there to market? SK is fun, but not unique in any way. Assume I joined the WoW experience, waayyyyy back in the early 2000s. And now I'm a level 84, total badarse, working my way up to level 85. I have sick looking gear, with even awesomer perks and cool abilities. Why should I play SK?

@ Arkate
The whole reason for marketing is to make your product look better than the competition, even if it is not. Think of all those preview and demo movies made for SK already, they all look way better than the game actually is. The point is to make the game look so good that it makes players want to play it. Even if their expectations are dashed once they play, they would have played at least once and will make their own decisions on whether they want to keep playing or not.

And if you think SK is not unique, give me a list games that are the exact same as SK (no, seriously. It would give me something else to play).

I'm not an expert in video game marketing (or marketing of any kind really. I'm not a business major, I work with computers), but the SK team could most definitely come up with something to advertise with.

Exactly the same?

The art style, lack of a plot, lack of varying damage lines and ingenous weapon mechanics, lack of uniquely functioning bosses, lack of originality in everything EXCEPT FOR THE ART STYLE!!! Games like WoW, SWtOR, ESO, RotMG, Tribes: Ascend, Smite, DotA 2, etc. SK is unique. It is unique in its lack of unique, original features. I assure you, few people playing those games would want to play Spiral Knights just because it has snipes.

None of those games play even remotely like SK. I don't evne understand why you would even think to compare them, saying that "Exactly the same". Yes, SK is a very simple game that doesn't go in-depth with it's plot (and yes, SK does have a plot. You porbably just don't pay attention to it) and has only a handful of weapon types and damage line. But the beauty of SK is that it IS simple like that. Most of the other big MMOs have so much content and random junk that it just turns into a race to see who has the most money to buy all of it and see who has the time to get up to lvl 200+.

All these things, and much much more are things OOO could use as marketing points to get peopel to play their game.

@Masterreeve
You are correct, but...
In theory, SK is still "a race to see who has the most money to" buy all the accessories, fancy items, rarities, and UVs. But, that's how ANY MMO game is really. The people who figure out the markets the fastest or throw the most of their fat wallets at the screen always get the best level or rare items in any MMO. And in games like GTAO and many others, it's whoever figures out the best glitch first.

@OP
Yes, SK needs marketing. They need to make it look deceivingly interesting like the first few levels of the game. Anyone noticed how the first levels around the Rescue Camp (along with OCH) are the most intricately designed and most interesting levels? Make some ads that look good like that to trick people into thinking the drab barren levels are all like that.

Yes, SK needs marketing. But I feel like a marketing budget could be better spent paying the SK team to make more actual content.

...and hire another web designer. Please.

I might consider running a shoddy ad campaign if the game picks up again- and if the moderation team learns from their mistakes. It'd be tough trying to convince players that they should play a game that blocks them with a massive paywall right before they finish, where their complaints will be ignored and their comments nit-picked to death. Not to mention the lag.

The idea would be to get a largish number of people to promote Spiral Knights. All it really takes is a few posters around key locations advertising Spiral Knights, inviting people to come and play with you at lans in lounges at some university or high school. Advertising on websites isn't cool or amazing, it just looks greedy. We would need to get to the right people, and we need to start the ball rolling.

The theme of the campaign would play on nostalgia for older games like Legend of Zelda and Bomberman as well as the rogue-like nature of the game. The items and art of the game would have to contribute as well, though this selling point has been somewhat diminished. But the biggest selling point isn't "MMORPG". Its "casual+interesting", its "laid back nature", think super smash bros brawl- but cooperative and with more flexibility. Its got all that, plus its not made by some huge corporation... its made by OOO, a small indie company that could actually use your cash, with some funding from SEGA. Inexpensive, and not out to get you, with a flexible and honest pay system that isn't demanding around every corner.

Imagine this: You go to a house party, and you see some people gathered around laptops playing together- each has a unique set of weapons and play style... it reminds you of old games, and you have to try it. So you talk to them about what gear to get, and you make your way to Haven. Next time you see your buds, you're ready to join in.

Its what Minecraft did. Its what Dive Kick is doing. Its what Spiral Knights needs to do when it gets its act together. But like Zeddy said- "Spiral Knights can never be a great game." and boy how I wish I didn't feel the same way about that thread. Otherwise, Spiral Knights cannot and will not market itself successfully.
