Whenever I launch the game on Steam, the client opens for around a second and then closes. What can I do to fix it?

steam problem

have you tried disable steam overlay?
if still not worked try this :
1. delete spiral knights
2. go to sk website, be sure to log out then download game from there and install (you can download it in play)
3. go to steam, download sk steam version
4. go to spiral knights folder (non-steam ver) and copy rsrc folder (to go to sk folder, you must shown hidden file first then C>users>user>AppData > LocalLow > spiral > copy rsrc folder
5. go to spiral knights folder (steam version) paste and overwrite rsrc folder there
6. launch sk steam version

This sounds like the issue most people have when running Spiral Knights off a fresh installation of OSX Mavericks and Java 7. Spiral Knights currently does not support Java 7 for macs.

Install Java 6 JDK (not JRE) and confirm that Java 6 is the version you are running in Console by typing java -version

If my guess is wrong, please provide more information about your operating system, system specs, etc.

SK runs when you go in and manually add exceptions.

See https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml

If you try to download a fresh copy of the standalone, I know it'll crash now in the latest java for mac, as it fails the security test used to prevent zero days. OOO just needs to update it.

Common error code "Missing required Permissions manifest attribute in main jar" because the jars haven't been updated for the anti-zero-day security system in the latest java version.

It's not a bug, it's a feature of Java 7 to ban Spiral Knights and associated applets from running. OOO needs to update the packaging for its files so java 7 doesn't ban it due to security crap.

Spiral Knights currently does not support Java 7 for macs.

No, it does run on Java 7. It's just currently banned by Java 7 for a security vulnerability, which can be manually overwritten.

For mac users with a login bridge that won't work see this example image on the exceptions to add.

If you're getting a broken application message on the standalone, use your terminal app to "cd" into the installed .app of it and go into the MacOS folder then run "./JavaApplicationStub"

from your relative user directory...
cd "../../Applications/Spiral Knights.app/Contents/MacOS/"
./JavaApplicationStub

Greetings,

If you are not web-launching the game the changes in the recent Java update are irrelevant. It is unnecessary to modify any of your Java security settings.

The standalone (non-steam) SK version freshly installed did not have the correct permissions in them (for mac at least).
