Does Spiral Knights download stuff in my PC if I launch the game for the first time in Kongregate.com?

But if you're going to play the game, then the game has to be downloaded somehow, right? Either you download it standalone, or it sits in your web browser cache, or whatever. But it has to take up space somewhere, right? On Mac OS X the application is about 750 MB.
