Returned to the game after a long time. Need help settling in.

Ok, I'm not exactly new to the game. I've played it a lot, but it was mostly a long time ago, before even the pets update. So I found myself kind of stuck.
I don't know if the updates changed a lot of the difficulty of the game overall, or if my weapons have been nerfed, but I'm finding it really hard to progress now.
The reason I stopped playing the game was because I got stuck at that mission that requires you to have 3 star gear to continue, and I wasn't yet very good at speaking english, so it was impossible to know what to do, I just knew I had to get 3 starred gear.
I believe that progressing through the new missions would aid you in some way, like give you required recipes and these kinds of things, but I'm really not in the mood to create another character and start from the beggining, I think I just grew too attached to my character, and it really brings me some memories back.
I'm having trouble with the mission that you have to kill the king slime (as I mentioned before, my gear really looks like it's not as good as it used to be) and I can't find parties to help me with it.
I'll be really grateful towards any kind of help or advice you guys can give me, like tips to farm, where to get good gear, or anything else.
I really like what this game is trying to do, and I really want to get back to it, but I only get more and more frustrated with how the game changed.

I'm sorry that you're finding the Royal Jelly difficult. Doing earlier missions won't help that much (although going through the rank missions is valuable in general). Have you tried standing in Haven and asking for help on the Sovereign Slime mission? Also, are you doing the mission on Normal difficulty? That's the easiest level.

For tactics against the Royal Jelly, you can also view videos on YouTube. You want to focus your attacks on the Royal Jelly, pretty much ignoring everything else. Also, use vials and barriers to keep him on fire, poisoned, shocked, etc. Status helps a lot.
