May 21 Update - Discussion
I'm pretty excited to see what these changes bring. Eager to replay through some of these older missions too, see what's new.
And I'm always up for rerunning IMF, haha, any excuse I can get is awesome.
I'm actually liking the sound of this update. I can't wait to see what you guys have changed.
So there will be less boxes at the end of the bosses right?
Have the arcade versions of the boss strata had their treasure rooms reworked, too?
"Rank 9-3 - The King of Ashes - Treasure room rework."
is that why i saw this today shortly before the update???

Rank 9-3 - The King of Ashes -----------------> Treasure room rework. <----------------------------
That thing on the map on d25 has nothing to do with the treasure room (at d28?) as far as I know.
"Rank 4-2 - A New Threat - New mission."
"Rank 7-1 - Darkest Depths - Mission text rewrite."
Mmmhhh... Interesting.
Same number of boxes...

Uhh, What is this thing?
all right, I am back to get that info on IMF I wanted to get a while ago. will post when I get to it.
@Mysmaster, Looks like the artifact would fit in that middle part.
^ I haven't seen that one, but I have seen the one at the end of 7-3. Pity they don't count as actual recon modules in the inventory.
Also? Herex is working with the Swarm. I want to see where this plot is going.
if that's so then with the artifact thing in the boss areas then maybe that is how the shadow lairs are getting created.
I wonder if Snarbolax has one even though they didn't mention it.
Hubert being in the lab is the best thing about this update.
Hubert is awesome.
That battle sprite harness guy is missing, or at least placed somewhere I'm not aware of.
The new mission looks and plays amazingly. I really don't think its going to save the game, or even really bolster it that much, but I suppose it is something.
His appearance being based on the same invisible gremlins in OCH makes me wonder if those ninja gremlins were working for Herex behind Seerus's back.
Checked out some of the new additions:
- The boss treasure rooms still have the same amount of boxes, but RJP and FSC have been redone with this odd sort of platform/object. As others have mentioned, it could likely be for the artifact. IMF has also received an area with a terminal that has some Crimson Order info.
- The new 4-2 mission is very well done, and I love the little Herex bit.
- The artifact seems to be the main focus of this update. I like that OOO is connecting the story together, and I'm going to finish looking at the rest of the reworked text and such.
New lore is very interesting... but none of it ends >.<
*hopes for more story soon*
As was mentioned in #22, the Riley is missing from the lab, meaning for now sprite harnesses are unpurchaseable. Annoying, considering I was just going there to upgrade all four of mine. I assume this is a bug and will be fixed next update?
If he's somehow been moved somewhere else, please do let me know.
EDIT: As mentioned below, he can be found in a few other scenes apparently. I just ran 2-3 The Collector to see the changes and found him in the lab after.
If you do mission 2-1 "A visit to the Lab" you can find Riley. The team is working to return him to the rest of the lab scenes.

This means that -H is officially Herex? A similar message with the same signature can be found in a Scenario room from Compounds levels with a ghostmane stalker...
I find interesting how the story of SK goes...
I shall call this "The Hubert Update".
And the new mission was awesome. Sad it's so short D: also raining Haven- YES. We need more non-sunny Havens, and cycle them daily.
"Rank 1-4 - Crossing the Chasm - Mission finale has new story hints."
Mind re-enabling that mission so we can play it again without having to make a new knight?
One is that the story, while interesting (I always knew Herex was totally off his rocker), seems to be programmed in such a way that players who have just started get the first bit and more is unlocked as they rank up. For people who have already reached Vanguard rank, it seems we're missing part of the progression, especially in regards to what shows up in the Lab. Obviously we could just create a new knight, but it seems a bit much to ask to have us level up a second character for that reason. Hopefully the wiki or at least YouTube will have the full story.
The other is that the number of water balloons being thrown around is making the server lag.
Oh hey, a new update to the lab, lets check it out!
/goes into the lab to find Hubert following me
10/10, best update ever!
In seriousness though, I will be waiting for when OOO connects the swarm more to the story
From the revamped 7-3 Spark and Roar: http://i.imgur.com/TG68Kq2.jpg
As you can see, the Swarm black boxes (as well as the dead gremlins from Unknown Passage) are in the "Hideout". Alongside the text in the screenshot, it kind of infers that Herex now serves the Swarm!
Incomplete
I like the costumes, there's finally another costume for girls that isn't a wailing dress! Whoop :) Knight's calves are quite large in comparison to their thighs though; it looks odd. The trunks are pretty cute too for the boys :)
The weapons are pretty adorable. The Blitz reskin is pretty funny, but it works out quite well since it's one of the most practical weapons to use in FSC c: The charcoal was pretty clever from the bomb, and the sword's design is cute, but the charge could be changed, since it is "dual" wielding.
From the missions I've done thus far...
1-4 :3
2-3 Heh. ;)
4-2 "Haven Rain" I like that. I wish the normal haven had weather/season changes too, other than Winterfest and Dark Harvest :o. The Lab is sort of confusing though, I was fighting off those gremlins for a few minutes until I realized I could go upward... Maybe add a direction arrow? Edit:Well, that placed knight, as Fangel noted VVVV, isn't very noticeable :/
5-2 Interesting.
6-2 Tasty ending ;O I like that a lot. :DD It's beautiful. <3
7-1 Null
7-3 Panda likes this. Swarrrrrm. Mm Tasty.
8-2
9-3
Right next to the door in the lab, there is a knight that, when talked to, tells you that they can handle the gremlins in the front and you should investigate the back because they heard an explosion(?). Players will just fight though, perhaps having that knight's speech be mandatory (think: Rhendon's role moments before) after walking through the door.

You don't mean to tell me that you were talking about adding two banners, did you?

If anyone is curious about the details of those mission text rewrites, here's a before and after:
Also "[ player ]" would be the name of your player.
Rank 5-2 - The Sovereign Slime
Description: "One of the Alpha Squad's recon modules is believed to be located somewhere in the Royal Jelly Palace, the home to one of the members of the slime aristocracy, the Royal Jelly. The might of these sovereign slimes is not to be underestimated. Should you find yourself facing this hot-tempered highborn, you would be wise to be equipped with the appropriate gear and backed by a full squad of experienced knights. It is highly recommended that you equip yourself with pierce resistant gear and shadow damage weapons before deploying for the Royal Jelly Palace!"
Objective: "Infiltrate the Royal Jelly Palace and recover the recon module"
Changed to:
Description: "The source of the strange energy signature is believed to be located somewhere in the Royal Jelly Palace, the home to one of the members of the slime aristocracy, the Royal Jelly.
Objective: "Infiltrate the Royal Jelly Palace and find the mysterious energy source"
Rank 6-2 - Built To Destroy!:
Mission text unchanged. Instead a Crimson Order Terminal has been added to the final floor.
Rank 7-1 - Darkest Depths:
"Then let's get started. I've got some missions lined up for you that will be invaluable for your survival in the dark depths you are about to face. Good luck to you, [ player ]."
Changed to:
"Then let's get started. Now that you've stopped the immediate threat to Haven, Spiral HQ is hoping to pick up the trail of the Artifact. It won't be easy. Fortunately I've got some missions lined up for you that will be invaluable for your survival in the dark depths you are about to face. Good luck to you, [ player ]."
Rank 8-2 - The Great Escape:
Mission text unchanged. Instead there is just the new miniboss.
One thing irks me about this update, and it's the fact that we STILL cannot replay missions 1-1 through 1-4 without creating a new knight. Even more frustrating when 1-4 now has some storyline changes, I don't want to waste time with a throw-away knight just to see them!
Please enable 1-1 through 1-4 to be re-playable!
So from what I did read, it seems to be obvious, that Herex is connected to the swarm. Is he corrupted or is he using it? Whatever it is, these indicies are pointing directly to the 'new T3 Boss' in which the swarm is involved.
Also the whole story is changed from *chase the Alpha Squad and find out what happened* to *war between Gremlins (Crimsome Order) and Spiral Knights and their energy source*. So finally the story focuses more of the reason why we knights are discovering the clockworks after all: because of energy to repair our spaceship and win a fight in our home world. Since the Gremlins are the only technical evoluted beeings on Cradle and we just want to steal it, it is just clear that they get mad on us. They also were *working on something*; a big project that is pretty important and is exposing a big piece of the Gremlin's story if we can find out what it is. Probably it will be something like *working on something Swarm related (or on a secound thought unlikely, since Herex does do this and Herex seems to have left the Order, so the Order has another goal - but who knows?) or it is about a technology to work with the clockworks to archieve something. I remember on a comment somewhere when a player said that the Gremlins are probably trapped on Cradle, too.
It is possible that Gremlins use their technology and artefacts to change the clockworks in a way or to use the clockworks to get away from Cradle. Then we knights appeared, took their artefact for our reason and crossed their works. Result: they see us a threat and started the assault with Roarmulus Twins.
There is just this pitty thing: I really did hope that I could replay one of these beginners missions (crossing the chasm) to be *able* to read the new hint. You can't advertise something that is impossible to reach for the char who got this message.
Aside this, everything points to a climax with Gremlins, Swarm and much lore about the origin of Gremlins whose are things that sound definitely interesting.
Slowly but surely fixing up the bits and pieces of the story to make it less convoluted? "Reworked" treasure rooms which imply either an increased or decreased payout? New mission? Lore?
Better than nothing!
