Shattering Shields

These could either be stand-alone shields, or an aspect granted to all shields via trinkets. Or both!

Once broken, a shield leaves a knight rather defenseless. But it doesn't have to go quietly! Some shields might be able to explode once their energy field takes too that final damage, releasing a last burst of energy in a final effort to protect the knight that wields them.

Variations of explosion (damage would either be normal, or dictated by a specific trinket):

Large Knockback explosion, small damage. Use: for getting away!
High damage explosion, small radius. Different trinkets for different damage types. Use: general aggression.
Status explosion, variable radius. Different trinkets for different status types. Use: tactical (I would go for freeze for several scenarios).

Any more ideas? Explosion patterns, etc.? (Default is nitronome pattern).

Trinket: 50% chance of explosion when shield breaks. So two = "for sure" explosion. Combine two different dmg type trinkets for a 100% chance to explode dealing two different kinds of damage. Neat!

Pet perk?

Shattering Shields: beautiful crystalline shields that have innate explosive tendencies, regardless of trinkets helping them out (though you might be able to modify the explosion further with said trinkets). You guys design the stats/looks - I imagine they would look similar to chunks of mineral/shard bombs. Heck, a few could even look almost exactly like shard bombs, so it could look like you're pretty much dual wielding shard bombs! Which you sorta would be, right? Haha.

I love the idea! I actually had an idea like this a year ago, but I tossed it thinking it was dumb... But you brought it back and now, I thank you, you think I can make a picture or concept art just to show you an idea what I had in mind?

I was thinking maybe the shield should still retain some of it's frontal protection when itloses its energy as it doesn't make sense (yes I know SK doesn't make sense at all and has no logic) to get damaged when someone hits your shield

If the shield could still block full damage after being broken then there'd be little point in the shield breaking at all. Let alone anyone making more than a swift strike at all.

If it could perform a damage reduction function (something I wish OOO would play with at least) then by all means try that.

Shattering shields was deemed a very difficult concept last it came up. Because for a shield with decent recharge time all the more someone would require is a shield to clear an arena. Also bombs would become even more archaic for damage.

If I recall correctly, the only basic concepts that picked up a decent amount of followers was that the shields would be a unique line, that the player would still get damaged, and that if a trinket were made, it would only give a percentage chance.

A crystalline shield based on shard bomb tech should follow a variant of shard bomb explosion method. I enjoy the concept but think that for this to be balanced we'd be best off not pursuing it until a bomb update.
