Hey guys;
Just though I would let you know I am planning a fairly large (20,000 CE in prizes) competition.
I want to get it started by this weekend so people can get started on working on stuff for it and maybe get a good stream of entries happening.
But I need a little bit of help getting it started up, mainly just need to know a few good things and get some opinions on if they would like the structure of it.
Things like that.
First thing:
I need to find a place that will allow me to upload the entries, kind of like a gallery.
Not DeviantART or anything like that.
Just a simple place where people can view the pictures, no accounts needed to do stuff and I can organize it blah blah blah.
There are a few places I had in mind but I thought some of you might know a good place for it.
It's mainly just to keep all the entries in one place, since I will be going through the entries personally on this godawful machine and uploading them to the Gallery, so that people don't have to wade through a bunch of posts to see new art I haven't linked to in the OP.
And there may be added functionality for polls or ratings, something like that, which may be useful.
Second thing:
My reward structure is going to be a little different.
Three Major Prizes of 5,000 CE each.
This is just for excellent artwork that I think deserves the 5,000 CE.
It's just a CE prize, no trophy.
This prize can be exchanged for sex at your nearest Shoebox.
Then 5 Minor Prizes of 1,000 CE each.
These are going to be categorized, I haven't thought of all the categories (maybe you can suggest some) but I have a few ideas.
Funniest Picture: Quality is irrelevant, just as long as the content is funny. Does need to be mostly drawing and not poorly drawn MS pain text.
Best Crossover: Cool Spiral Knights art crossed over with other franchises. As long as it has an actual identifiable character from Spiral Knights. Because I imagine 50 billion people seeing this category and drawing their knights as My Little Ponies. I won't upload that. Ever. You will owe me 1000 CE for having to look at it.
Coolest Action Shot: Matrix style freezes mid combat of Knights fighting. Ridiculously cool stuff, that looks like it cost billions of dollars to choreograph.
You get the idea.
Anyway I just want any feedback on this, if it's too limiting or whatever.
If I should change the way the prizes work.
I wanted to be as fair as possible to people of all artistic levels and I didn't want people who got into the Major Prize category to feel like one was better than the other. I think winning a Major something should feel like you've won a Major something.
As for minor prizes, feel free to suggest categories. I may make them open for public voting or something if the site they are uploaded on has that function.
Third thing:
Rules.
Yeah it has rules.
Mainly just to keep the stuff structured.
This is a Spiral Knights competition, obviously, so the ToS will apply to certain stuff. Can't have leetle cheeldrens looking at naughty things.
It has to have easily identifiable links to Spiral Knights in it. You can really make whatever you want, but it has to look like it has something from Spiral Knights in it. I'm not that fussy, other than that.
It has to be art made specifically for this competition, it can't be something you've put together before and want to submit again.
For it to count, I have to upload it to the gallery. If I don't see it and put it in the Gallery you can't win anything.
If you win a Major Prize, you won't be eligible to win a Minor Prize. You can't win more than one category of Minor Prize either. If there's a chance you win more than one Minor Prize category somehow, you'll be asked to choose one category and the next person will win the category you didn't choose.
S'pose that's it for rules.
If you can think of any other rules that should apply, feel free to tell me.
Pretty sure no penis is implied, but if I have to put it there, I will.
Also, the artwork can be in any medium. Pencil and paper, photoshop, origami, duct-tape sculpture, burnt toast that looks like Kozma.
Whatever you want, really.
Fourth thing:
Length.
Just want people to throw around an acceptable time period for a competition like this.
I was thinking 2 weeks to a Month, but it depends on how many entries people send in.
Hopefully people will share it since I am putting a fair bit of CE into it.
But we'll see.
Won't open this up to submissions yet 'til everything else is organized.
I'll make a proper thread for the competition when I start it up.
So, get posting, I guess.
You could make a Tumblr account for it, maybe? Dunno what kind of options they have for organising things, but I know you can upload pictures.
As for duration, I'd say a month or so, to give people time to (a) hear about the competition and (b) draw something.
