I'm a gun / sword hybrid - user, should I obtain myself one piece of gunslinger armor and one piece of dusker armor?
Thanks for anyone's advice.
Regarding Hybrids
Fehzor is "graciously" quoting me from this thread today, which was asking about gun-bom hybrids rather than gun-sword hybrids. So you should replace all mentions of bombs with swords. Once you read some of those resources, perhaps you can ask more detailed follow-up questions. But to answer your question more specifically: Sure, that's fine.
(Me and a few other Free to Plays got the reference).
Well, seen you a lot on the forums Fehzor. Just read the one with the the Aphrodite e-mail. Kudos to that guy. *Ahem*
Back to the matter at hand, I was planning on brandish for elemental and shadow swords, antiqua for the same damage types, and mangus/snarble barb for piercing. I was planning on shields for the damage types against enemies, but I secured myself a snarby shield for piercing. Um, orignal plan was to have those shield with gunslinger armor for the correct damage types, later get myself chaos and quicksilver for my own reasons. Then when I noticed that my swords were more than a side armor, I posted this thread asking if it would be a good idea for hybrids to have two different class gear. Of course I could always go bomb helm, gunslinger armor and sword shield, but two wep slots. Yeah, regular attacks. So damage upgrades are my end goal. Kill stuff faster, good thing right? Already read all the guides on weaponry and refer to them often. So, any clues for me fezhor?
P.S. I don't use bombs.
"Um, why are you dressed like that?" "Cause it grants super powers." "It's ridiculous." "It's a clown suit, mortal fool." "Said the man talking to the immortal."
Wrote a comment, a wild Bopp appeared.
"Are you still playing pokemon?" "No, it's digimonsters." *Facepalm*
I guess I'm now going to go with the new plan of wolver and gunslinger armor. Brilliant.
"Why are we even having these conversations?" "Cause it pays enough to not only protect a family in Russia, but to fire a custom gun with custom bullets that costs $20,000 to fire for 12 seconds."
(One again, mostly free to plays got that reference.)
I think gun+bomb is a bad combination because both leave you vulnerable to close attacks
I never play without a sword.
so pure bomber or pure gunner are vulnerable to close attacks by your definition,
and they should not exist because they make you in danger? >__>
You may go something like one chaos piece + one piece of something else (like wolver/gunslinger/perfect mask of seerus) for hybrid.
Unsure if trying to belittle me or say hello. But- It honestly doesn't matter what you go for, because in the end you'll have ample opportunity to find new items and then use them on top of whatever else to patch up whatever you had trouble against until you get there. In the mean time, I'd suggest chaos + seerus as a starting place, as that grants you far more offensive stats than it should while not putting you into any kind of real jeopardy. You could use vog and nameless or vog and whatever else you want, but you'll get a total of +2 for swords and guns respectively with that, while with chaos+seerus you'll get +4 for swords and +3 for guns (discounting the handgun ctr, as you plan to use antiguas).
Freeze resistance hardly helps, as it takes most enemies half a second to break your ice and poison can just be walked off after a while, doing no real damage. Shock and fire are bad, but with at least a med of each, you'll be relatively fine.
Another suggestion would be to try out the alchemers. If you can make them work for you, especially with chaos+seerus, then you can snipe enemies into the ground with the charge while spreading status and crowd control on the normal hits. They're also my weapon of choice on grievers, and would probably let you just not craft a piercing gun, since beasts are a pain to gun with anything but blitz anyway. Speaking of blitz, get it if you ever want to do FSC because it is the greatest thing there, but I'm sure you know that by now.
@Batabii
Perhaps you are too sword reliant? You complain about situations that put swords at a distinct disadvantage, being tortodrones and tons of greavers. Tortodrones are weakest to handguns like supernova, greavers are solved by dark briar barrage/nitronome, and very little else when in large numbers.
Let me rephrase that. I'm not saying nobody should go pure gun or bomb, just that it's a lot more risky. Pure sword isn't always so great either
Personally, I prefer versatility. I try to go gun, sword, bomb.
The forum's built-in search function is terrible, but you can use an ordinary web search engine to find threads like this. For example, Google sword bomb hybrid site:forums.spiralknights.com.
In terms of armor, the obvious choices are Chaos, Black Kat Cowl, or a mix of swordy and bomber armor. You can read about each of the latter on the Gunslinger Guide and Bombing Guide, on the wiki. Swiftstrike is a good shield, unless you want more defense such as Grey Owlite, Crest of Almire, etc.
Although you're asking about only armor, you might want to mention your plans for weapons, as your choice in armor is somewhat determined by the weapons. Some swords are charge-oriented (Combuster, etc.) while others are regular-attack-oriented (Dread Venom Striker).
