Man, is it me or there has been a huge lack of updates since Nick left? It seems like it. I've been playing Spiral Knight since 2012 and I remember there used to be lots of updates to the game it was insane. Even in 2013. But, this year was very dry in fact. The only major update was Battle Sprites and energy and inventory GUI overhaul. That's it. It's quite disappointing.

I remember the devs were hyping the arcade redux and fan-hyped Gunner update. lol. But since Nick left to do other projects. All the announcements seem to be baseless promos and OOO seem to go quiet about the major updates. I'm beginning think it was because of Nick leaving. They might be cancelled or proper working on something big I hope. I don't know the game has become boring to me. It will be nice if they had a patch with a mission or two once in a while. Now it's just costumes and accessories. It might be possible the updates like Arcade redux was scrapped. I love Spiral Knights. But I will kill for a nice proper updates once in a while. It seems 2014 been very dry for SK. At least add some new permanent gear to the game instead of events. Man, they are annoying.

I don't think we've had an actual permanent content update this year, but correct me if I'm wrong.

are you kidding?

Are you aware of how many threads complain about the lack of updates? Are you aware that just about every one of these threads contain the conjecture that Nick Popovich's departure is the cause?

There is nothing new in this thread. My vote is that you move it to the Graveyard. Best wishes.

direction

I'm going to skip my normal "OHHH I KEEP FORGETTING THAT PROMOS AREN'T SCHEDULED AND WORKED ON AHEAD OF TIME" sarcastic thing + making fun of OP and just:

They have done some work on missions.
Early missions.

Stuff that people already playing the game (t2-t3) will easily miss.

Losing a designer doesn't necessarily impact the speed that they work on features (ex: arcade redux), but it does impact direction - ex: if they were originally focused on a certain vision of the Arcade before Nick's departure, they are now no longer tied to it (or might end up choosing a different direction to go). Even while Nick was here (see: the months after September announcement), Gunner update release was being delayed and people were complaining about lack of content updates - for what reason? It could have been to develop the events or whatever other large thing they're working on that the CMs seem to be hinting at once in a while ("they're working on things players will really enjoy").

Good games take time, and

Good games take time, and some just never take off.

For example Daikatana was released extremely late and at the time it's graphics were outclassed (Still love ya Romero), Valve has had several delays with its games and updates and still it is successful. Even DOOM (one of the most revolutionary games of all time) suffered from setbacks.

New thread every week about no update complaints.
New thread every week about costume complaints.
New thread every week about Nick leaving complaints.

One of these days I might get annoyed enough to just link them all together with comments I've made on all of them.
That day isn't today though.

You're forgetting something

Don't forget the wrongly placed thread, the derailed drama thread, and ban appeal threads!

EDIT: I accidentally a letter.

Leave it be bro, This community likes playing only with re-skins.
They rather have the game stay the same only re-skinned.
Instead off progress they rather want it to be fashion game.
Therefore OOO updates with these cosmetic garbage.

Irevolutioni, I disagree. just because they keep buying promos doesn't mean thay don't want other things to do.

The game is very well done,

The game is very well done, and they are seemingly focusing on the earlier missions to advance the story, which is quite neat.

The downside is that the only thing they add to keep older players interested are dress-up costumes that people pay obscene amounts of money for (AKA Wings of Summer.....what is the price, 60k energy? AKA $100 IRL. That's insanity right there.)

The downside to that downside is that Lockdown is suffering from the poorly implemented mechanics (AT and Polaris, or whatever else they complain about in there). OOO won't focus too much on that because they are focusing on the story primarily, and then costumes and accessories secondarily.

Due to the lack of player-developer communication, both sides have very misaligned views of where the game should be headed.

Not sure how well the new missions are keeping players, but old players either:

A) focus on dress-up
B) rage in lockdown (Let's be honest, winning 5 games in a row gives 0 satisfaction, so leaving LD for the day always leaves that "bad taste" feeling)
C) Run Vanaduke until they can beat FSC in 20 minutes while sleeping

OOO is:

1) Not communicating with players (Though their in game support and support in general is quite stellar)
2) Making stuff for the dress-up players to spend money on to play dress-up even longer
3) Supposedly developing cool stuff behind the scenes, but we don't know due to point 1

So here, players want more content (anything but vana), and improved LD experience, while OOO is not communicating progressively at all about the game's future and only releasing dress up related stuff.

The only alignment we have are dress-up options. The artwork is very cool, but functionality is even cooler.

TL;DR (don't blame ya)
Game is currently a custom Lamborghini with a lawnmower engine. Awesome art, and reliable yet limited functionality.
