Here's what I've gathered so far:

There's a new token available called Brittle Candy

Brittle Candy can be used to purchase a set of new Dark Harvest costume helmets: Paper, Replica, and Authentic Scarab Masks
Brittle Candy is acquired from Grim Gourdings. One Gourding drops 1 or two Brittle Candies.
Grim Scarabs sometimes spawn from graves, as Zombies tend to do. When a Grim Scarab is killed, a Grim Gourding spawns in its place.
A number of Grim Scarabs are guaranteed to spawn in the final level of The Dark Harvest (daily prestige mission)
The mission An Occurrence at Owlite Keep (rank 9-1) is highly recommended for farming these.

There's a new material called Punkin Sprout (picture)

These can be purchased from Maskwell with 20 of any kind of Candy token.
Punkin Sprouts can be used to craft a Maskeraith Pod (Punkin).

Grim Scarabs are their name. They also spawn in graveyards from what we found (I think 1/100)

A bit of a ho-hum Harvest this year, compare it to the release of the Shadow Lair or Apocrea...

Theory: Grim Scarabs spawn from any grave, not just the scripted ones in the Dark Harvest Festival mission.
Proof: Here
They replace the spawned Dust Zombie, but at a much higher rate than Black Kats, fortunately.

An Ocurance at Owlite Keep seems to be the ideal mission I can think of for Grim Scarab hunting and Brittle Candy gathering.
As for pictures of the Punkin Maskeraith? It doesn't even have a model.

Do not complete

Do not complete the mission.

If you want to farm for the brittle candy, do not complete the mission, just restart it and have another go until you're loaded.

I need confirmation though, anybody else done this?

Three Rings has already implemented prevention of this, as people could do so to farm the Punkin King encounter infinitely in the past. Once you have reached the last depth of the mission, you can't start it again that day.

Upon death of the grim scarab, it becomes a grim gourdling (fire zombie).

So far, they drop 1-2 brittle candy (usually 1).

So far I've been finding 2 to 4 of the Scarabs per run of Occurance at Owlite Keep, which is a tremendous improvement compared to the 1 Black Kat per 3 hours for the Katastrophe.

I'm pleased, this is cute and fun and not impossible. With other games taking up so much of my time now it's good to know I can still get everything I need. :3

That's about how I feel too. This event isn't going to be a matter of life and death, eating up every second of my spare time. Thank god. At the same time, it feels pretty low effort, which is also nice seeing as to that they really need to get out the actual update that we've actually been waiting for.

In the end nothing much changed from previous instances of the event, I guess I'll just do the prestige mission once a day to get the scarab mask and get a few boxes and be done with it.

If I don't have access to Occurrence at Owlite Keep yet, can I farm the first level of the prestige mission and return to Haven each time instead of continuing to the second level? Do I need to avoid stepping on the elevator?

If you're referring to The Dark Harvest, then yes. I believe you can go on the elevator, but you must return to Haven. Should you go to the 2nd floor, you will be unable to play the 1st level again. You could also look around and see if you can find another mission with a graveyard as the first level. Legion of Almire is one, but it is only available every few days.

@Krakob: Yes, you were right. I can farm the first level of the Dark Harvest prestige mission. I even found four Grim Scarabs/Gourdings on one level.

The only trouble is the first level isn't always graveyard themed. It rotates between graveyard, clockworks tunnels, and Candlestick.

Patience is Key

If you sit in the waiting room for the Punkin king mission the level type on the elevator changes over time, usually every 30 sec - 1 minute. It follows the pattern of Candlestick Keep, Graveyard, Tunnels, Graveyard and repeats, so just stay patient while in the waiting room and you'll be in a graveyard level in no time. Yesterday I managed to find 12 scarabs all on the first level, allowing me to complete my scarab mask with ease, so just keep repeating the first floor and you'll have some major success in no time! I've also found that keeping it on a normal difficulty gives more scarabs....I'm not sure if It's just a coincidence, but I tried doing it 5 times on each difficulty after normal, and as the difficulty increased, the scarabs decreased, so make sure to keep the difficulty low for farming too :)

I keep hearing that Occurrence At Owlite Keep is the way to go, but I've only ever gotten 1-2 candies for every four or five runs of the Graveyard floor. Is there a trick to this, or does RNGesus just really hate my guts?

RNGesus hates your guts. I've had a few runs with 4+ scarabs and will generally average at least one scarab per Graveyard.

That was last year. It'd be funny if they forgot to add the implemented solution to the problem to this year's event making them have to do an update a day or two after the event started. :P
