So how do you feel about the Gunner Update now?

I have to say it's been a lot more fun than I expected. I've been hoping for more new content, but the abundance of new gear gives us a new way to play the same game, which is fun in its own way, too.

I've got a couple of new guns I enjoy - Chainsaw and Wildfire - and got lucky enough to craft a couple of MAX UVs so I'm gunning more now.

However, I'm disappointed in the look of the new helms and armors. While the Shade harem pants (err, sorry, guys, I mean, um, Alladin pants) are kinda groovy, nothing really looks awesome. Helms in particular seem to be the game's weak point aesthetically.
(C'mon, Ian, step up your game, bro!)

While I won't say it was worth the wait (cuz the wait was so long and delayed), the gunner update was certainly a very welcome addition to the game, and especially has made winter break more entertaining.

I feel exactly the same as I did at day of the patch, which is the same feeling I had when the update was on the testing server.

It's a step forward.

Chainsaw?

Pretty much the same as the launch: The armor looks nice but is really confusing and useless, and the new guns are nice for variety and diversity in LD meta but they don't really add anything new new.

Idk anymore...

The new guns are nice and everything also the changes which were added to some guns are pretty cool too but...the armor...are just a bit off from what I would have expected.

They are not bad but for me it just felt that they were just a huge bunch of new sets with close to random stats res and min put together and also ._. they really don't look like gunner armor except for that mask set (the names are too similar and annoying at times).

For me the concept art team should maybe rethink of changing some of those sets visual look in the future.

But as a Draycos said its a step forward but Im just waiting for the story update and the arcade redux and challenge mode ;3

They're nice.

I feel like the development team sort of brainstormed without umbrellas and all their ideas just sort of fell into a huddled mess in the game, but it's not like they had bad ideas. Gunners have just gotten a lot of rainbow vomit all over their class right now and it's mostly just confusing, but when we finally get used to the smell we'll appreciate the colors.

Art style is neat, and the array of colors per style is wonderful for costume designers everywhere.

Weapons themselves work great, but it's nothing to use all your confetti about.

I think the update was real

I think the update was real nice. The new armors are great (if not a little visually audacious).

I particularly like what they did to the Pulsars. Finally put a stop to those annoying Pulsar walls.

I'm a bit sad abiut the Catalyzers loss in DPS though. But they're a lot more flexible now, and I suppose that's nice.

Mainly Positive I Guess

The new guns are nice and I enjoy the reworked magnus line. It's also nice having new variety in Gunning gear though I'm still sticking with my current armor set.

my main dislikes:
- though its nice there are different styles for each armor set so people can choose what color scheme they want I don't like how they did the names, It gets confusing
- I absolutely despise the changes to the Catalyzer, It's a nerf to an underused gun which I find a very unnecessary change
- Gunswitching change, makes using my drivers less fun

despite those 3 things I welcome the other additions/changes so the update is an overall positive, though I really want the old Catalyzer back

Pre-existing sets outclass new armor in damage

The armor is outclassed in damage by numerous well embedded sets (Chaos, Shadowsun, BK), the resists they have are quite nice as are the universal gun boosts (ASI CTR and DMG).

The gun tweaks were ok, some got raised to god tier (Magnus) and others just got shuffled sideways into another equally bad spot (catalyzers)

Im not to sure.

I like the new guns, though I will probably be getting none myself. I do not like the insane amount of armors and helms.

Firstly, they're all far too confusing. And secondly, when I want to go to Basil to find a recipe that I actually need, all I can find are recipes from the Update. So in the end, I don't really care to much one way or the other, but its nice to not log onto the Forums and see whining and complaining about not having the Gunner Update

not confusing

The new armors should not be confusing. The short version is:

At 2 stars you select your damage protection. At 3 stars you select your status resistances. At 4 stars you select nothing; there is only one option. At 5 stars you select your offensive bonus. These choices are independent of each other, except that, if you select a family-specific offensive bonus at 5 stars, then it must match the damage protection that you selected at 2 stars.

Now about the thread: The Magnus knockback bug/feature is irritating. Otherwise, the update is okay but not amazing, just as we expected.

@Mezuka: You can still

@Mezuka: You can still shoot-switch the alchemers. the only difference is that now you have to shield cancel before switching.

@Holy-Nightmare: The new armors aren't necessarily outmatched. For one thing, they achieved OOO's original goal, to make armors that can best fit any specific situation.

@ Keepscaite

But thanks to BK and Chaos these armors are only really good when the going gets tough and you need to be able to resist and tank hits. Other than that most will stick to Chaos and BK so they can OHKO any threat that comes their way.

All I'm saying is that Chaos and BK put a hamper on the hype that was the GU armor, without BK or Chaos the new gear would have really stood out more.

Regardless I'm still going to get 5 GU armor sets (eventually).

"the update is okay but not amazing, just as we expected"

"We" as in you and some friend of yours I would guess, because I have seen more people if not almost all of them theorize something like OOO working on something very big that was taking them so long that they had to delay the update many times, not to pick on anybody but... yeah, just to clarify.

TBH I am guilty of this as well, I didn't really expect there to be huge game changing mechanics and incredible stuff to happen but I did expect something at least a little bit... different. The mechanic changes aren't bad at all just with a few exceptions, I am very happy with the pepperbox changes, that gun was worthless in every aspect and I always wanted to be able to use it without feeling like i'm being a drag for my team to carry. Also magnus finally has a meaning in PvE, and thats about the only place where it recieved a buff though, I would've liked it better if the normal shots had the range buff too, but this gun is ok as it is now.

And about the armors... at first, I thought that the ammount of new armors and my first thought was unnecessary and bad, but after carefully examinating them I decided that they're just fine and there's nothing to dislike about them, it's just a little awkward when compared to what the current swordman & bomber armors are like, only having one type of bonus and not having as many choices as gunners currently have. (like how you can't go for Sword damage bonus and elemental defense at the same time or get a shadow defense set as a bomber unless you're insane/rich or both and you can get the kat armor) However, some people said they expect there to be a swordsman and also a bomber update that would presumably add more armors of a similar fashion as the ones that have been implemented in the gunner update, making armor choices somewhat equal again, but I will repeat my words here, I don't think that will happen for reasons I rather save to myself.

The only things that I consider to be really lacking from this update are 1st:Catalyzers. how is this an improvement? I don't think the changes are bad, but I don't think they're better than before either.

2nd: Antigua's charge attack, this gun's charge attack was largely critiziced for being meaningless and unnecessarily risky, why has there been no change here when it was totally called for?

You're right that I shouldn't pretend to speak for a big group of players. But there have been several threads, both in General Discussion and Testing Feedback, which pretty clearly indicated what the gunner update was going to be. We've even had threads about "let's not get our hopes up". Anyone who wanted to predict the gunner update had ample information and opinions available.

Bopp is right

A friend of mine, a gunner, leaked to me that there's a secret plan they're doing, I recall Nick or another Game Master say something about extended story line and new ranks "post-Vanguard". Some people wanted an underwater level, but that has been shot down (haha, gunners) because of the gear and uselessness of weapons. (Such as some helmets not closing all the way, and the brandishes have negative effects in water. Bullets go slower and bombs would be okay.)

I think Mayaura just made a mistake with that "ChainSAW" part, probably referring to the dark chaingun/grim repeater.

edit: See what you do, Now I had to correct what I said because I used chainsaw too instead of chaingun.

What I can appreciate about gunner update:
-New shock and freeze shadow/elemental sets to fill up the gaps in my arsenal
-Magnus fix that made it actually a viable weapon line. The charge on the magnus can now be compared to autoguns.
-New pulsars, you can never have too many pulsars.

What I felt neutral about gunner update:
-The new armour designs are a mixed bag, nothing really caught my eyes other than the free scarf on the shade armors.
-Fix on pulsar, although pulsars are no longer miracle guns, I still use it a lot but all in the while hugging my sword more during combat.
-Cata fix, again, it is still a niche gun that I will never use, could totally live without it.

What I hate about gunner update:
-Too much candy, some of the new armors and guns are simply redundant and some of them needed their spot in the HoH.
-The brewing crap storm, I could hear the sound of whinny sword users and bombers complaining now...
-Valiance and iron slugs are things of the past, now in the same dumpster as shard bombs and mad bomber set.

Quite great

Although the guns are mostly nice and the general mechanics changes are absolutely great, I'm afraid that the GU actually has filled every single gap in the gunner arsenal. Swords still often have problems with enemies with ranged attacks, and bombers obviously have so many gaps in their arsenal I'm not even gonna talk about it. But gunners now have a weapon and armor set for every single situation, a huge advantage compared to other classes. Even though it's almost impossible to craft them all, as a gunner you can still have a more varied arsenal than bombers and maybe even swordies.

I'm not saying I don't like the guns or that things should be changed, but now we need bomb (and maybe after that sword) changes even more to prevent bombing becoming completely obsolete.

I also think that some armors could be cheaper, since there is probably nobody who is gonna spend his money, orbs and crystals on something like a Sacred Snakebite Wraith set.

I don't really care about the looks, we have enough cosmetics in the game right?

Bombs by far need the biggest

Bombs by far need the biggest in terms of overhaul, they don't even have an elemental bomb for pure damage dealing besides the shard bomb. All of their armors besides the one available from the Black Kat event offer Elemental defense only.

Related to topic, I do like the weapon additions, then again I always like new options for stuff. Most happy about the Magnus charge change, it does wonders now. Not to mention Catalyzer is much faster and easier to use, though it still gets the most use out of multi-Catalyzer runs or solo runs, the runs where people aren't destroying everything before you can even detonate them.

I can also agree, while nice adding certain armors with missing element resistances (Easily accessible Shadow + Fire armor anyone,) there's just too many armors. All 3 of the lines you can choose from for the Padded Set all have 12 different 5*s, that's 36 new armors for 5*. It's a shame the only real notable difference in terms of stats is a damage up for a corresponding monster family than a universal low up (for same element resistance.) That reminds me, why is this upgraded from a 1* I can't even find a recipe for? Last time we had any sort of 1* that upgraded to 5* would be the Haze Bomb back when it didn't have a stun line.

I like the addition of

I like the addition of alternative damage/status types onto preexisting weapons, though it's difficult to call it "new"

The armor is "new," but it was silly for OOO to go for that "gotta collect them all (as you get orbs via the supply depo)" gambit when the chaos set exists.

New armors make rich gunners the most flexible.

Sacred Firefly Sentinel Set -> OCH

Sacred Snakebite Pathfinder Set -> SL GWW
Sacred Grizzly Pathfinder Set -> SL RJP
Sacred Falcon Sentinel Set -> SL IMF
Sacred Firefly Shade Set -> SL FSC

Sacred Falcon Sentinel Set -> GitM
Sacred Firefly/Snakebite Pathfinder Set -> C42
Sacred Grizzly Shade Set -> HoI

Sacred Grizzly Shade Set -> Grinchlin Assault
Sacred Grizzly Shade Set -> Apocrea
Sacred Falcon Shade Set -> Tortodrones

10/12 new sets [ignoring family-specific damage] have a great use allowing gunners to have CTR med + ASI med + DI med [or single family VH]. I'm excited to see how the falcon shade set holds up at tortodrones.

Beware! upturned salt truck ahead

Don't want to sound like a grump but I feel like the update didn't add anything new to the game. The biggest addition to guns happened before the gunner update even arrived and that was the black kat armour, the mixmaster and torto guns. Those there the things that gunners needed, fun new guns that did something interesting, and offence bonus armour with msi.

All I wanted from the gunner update was something like mercurial armour for gunners which ended up being the ridiculously OP BKC set, and a new gun or two that did something interesting with the bullets, like a mortar or a boomerang, and we got mixmaster and torto guns.

The most interesting change this update has given us is the buff to magnus gun charges. That one was a really nice fix and turned one of the worst guns in the game in to one of the best ones.

The new armour sets are a noob trap. There are only 2/3 sets that one would ACTUALLY want to craft and the rest are a waste of space. For PvE they fare worse than the old Seerus+chaos combo, and for PvP they get outclassed by shadowsun and bkc. They could've done something interesting with the new armours like have them give bonuses to statuses (50% increased poison strength etc) but what we got is just more of the same.

*disclaimer*!! I actually really appreciate having the gunner update, and it has done its job of filling out the range of guns available, and overall the game looks to be more fun for newer players. Having been on testing server to try all the new stuff beforehand I knew exactly what we would be getting so I wasn't expecting anything more than what we got.

Combined with Heart Attack, I find it as a great way to take out huge clumps of enemies and get free healz at once.. That is, if I'm actually in a co-operative party and not full of people who blindly slash at everything they see.
