February 11 Update - Discussion
EDIT: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/108179#comment-980919
Grand.
Question: Will this be effecting the depth of the danger mission?
Question 2: What depth will these levels be ending on?
One of the games I follow needs to stop hyping me this early in the work day, my heart can only take so much!
It's only been like two months since the last content update. Am I dreaming?
Have someone pinch you and see. It's the only way to be sure.
New mission hype! Ha of course it happens right when I need to get ready for work...dang adult responsibilities.
"I dreamed about new missions tonight. Then I woke up and it was gone:("
"Maybe we will know about the Steam announcements this evening..."
So the missions I dreamed about last night and which I predicted are actually released! That is scary, I must be a psych or so...
Too bad I don't have time now to play them immediately, but I know what I'm gonna do tomorrow. I also wonder about the crowns/radiants payout of those missions, if the starting depth is lower then that of KoA this might be the new #1 rad grind place.
I have so many questions...
1. On the first depth of Breaking In Recruits, the blue stranger says ''Snipes. Buy? Sell?'' I believe. Might that mean that snipes are sold on some sort of black market?
2. Why is the proto gun of one recruit shoots like a blitz needle?
Good thing, too, because veteran Knights are getting very too bored with all that waiting and too frequent launches of new items, promos, & all that. I hope that adding new missions will be much more frequent in the game instead of new items all the time! They're all nice, but we needed more new adventures, & we've had it coming for a long, long, LONG time! It's been very long since we've had new ones!
Did you stealth patch the Mixmaster bug by any chance? Seems to be working normally now. Good job with the update guys! Thanks!
@Dutch-Oven. Good eye. I've updated the release notes with the following. Sorry about that!
Bug Fixes
- Point blank shots from the Overcharged Mixmaster should now work properly.
- Charged and normal Mixmaster shots no longer shoot through walls or energy gates
I filed a bug report already but there still seem to be a few minor, minor things with the Mixmaster. Mainly, the Mecha Knights don't shield when hit with it. Aside from that, though, it's working beautifully and went from a cute novelty to one of my favorite weapons. <3
Also, wow, I've only played the first mission but it was quite enjoyable. Love the new design stuff you have going on. It was incredibly refreshing.
yay. too bad it's ten to midnight here. oh well. I'll try them missions tomorrow, probably.
Rank 10-2 ehh ... that means a future 10-10 rank?
But the missions are easy to elite, and thanks for the unknown pasadiizo without Shadow Key
And the interesting thing is a proto gun that works like a Blitz XD
Nice OOO
Yeah the new missions were great. I love the level design with the new puzzle elements... GREAT job at introducing them. I really hope they make it into the arcade as random levels somehow as well. That'd really make my day, a danger room and a few high paying levels with those awesome new puzzle elements all over the place.
The only thing I was really disappointed in was how the new levels ended prior to D27/D28. I was really hoping for more areas to find radiant fire crystals in, since the game pretty much mandates that you go after them as often as possible once you're at 5*. But then, that'll probably be fixed with the next installment- assuming of course, that the game isn't going to just end abruptly without explaining the end of that last mission. It's also worth noting that the second level DID pay out with 15 of the fire crystals, which was appreciated and provided that this is the first installment, "good enough".
I've only tried the first mission so far but i love the level design! Nice job guys.
Thank you so much for making the mixmaster work again! Also, new missions? Have I told you people how much I love you?
Poor loot payouts due to notably low box count on the custom maps.
Radiants don't drop at all it seems.
Last stage of the 3rd mission has no reward.. but at least it's free, huh?
Good missions, I like them. But now I need MOAR.
There's no new rank, and the rewards kinda suck (oh boy another eternal orb), but at least we can farm radiants easier without boring vana runs or tons of energy spent on shadow keys.
I just wish they could fix more than one bug at a time.
I must admit that fighting another Collector caught me off guard.
Good work OOO, I hope more missions in the future.
Ah, the stealth patch without trying trick. You gotta love it. (Yes, it's a serious accident. I should know.)
Also, content!? That's rad! Can we stop grinding Vanaduke?
At last, incentive for me to complete KoA and go Vanguard after 4.5 years of playing.
I am hype.

One I want the new proto shield,
Two I want to thank you for all your hard work the new missions where terrific the puzzles and the bit of Shadow Lair at the end of the 3rd mission great suprise, keep up the good job and
Three sorry if I don't go into great details
I tend not to analyze much i just play the game taking the good with the bad(if any) and enjoy every moment of this beautiful game
Now this is how puzzles should be! Please make the future missions puzzling too, maybe even very puzzling. After all, that is the goal of Spiral Knights!
I'm usually pretty quiet. But something's got me upset.
Love the new missions. Totally creepy. Love some of the new starlink blocks and potential for really complex puzzles. But I have a large issue with something "small" - as far as I can tell, I'm the only one who cares about this in my social groups.
What I don't like? The "new" tooltips for unattached armor accessories. As a wiki editor with an obsession over accuracy and consistency, this really makes my head spin - pretty much all the armor acc tooltips are "slightly inaccurate" now because they're not directly a shot of what's in-game. I get it, things change, and our job as wiki editors is to adapt with that. But man that's a lot of work that not enough people care about. But it's not just about the wiki - these new tooltips are not...better. They're worse. The purpose of these tooltips is to give a nice, close up view of an accessory, no? Now they don't do this as well as they used to.
I wonder why the patch notes don't mention this?
Compare, if you will, these two examples:
Crest of Love old (better, IMO, focus on chest, consistent with "just head" thing for helmet acc tooltip images)
Cres of Love new (worse, IMO - see how much smaller the topic of the tooltip is? ugh)
That being said, I like them for auras, especially leafy that puts stuff on the head. They're great for that.
My opinion is that they should be reverted to what they were...yesterday. Don't fix what ain't bork, as they say. If you're gonna tweak this, why not focus on giving us full preview options at Bechamel/Auction House, overworld included so we can see trailing effects and how glasses REALLY look on a knight?
Love everything else about this patch.
*Sits and wonders what I'm doing with my life.*
ooo
>puts collector in t3 mission
>"Hey guys! new content!"
On a similar note non-farmable mission provide only temporary satisfaction. I would have preferred the 2 year old arcade redux which actually seemed like a great idea in terms of replay value.
Was just able to play the new missions, and I loved every bit of them!
But, on that note, can the old AIs be gaining the new AI? I mean, the new ones shield bash. Shield bash!
The new AIs are like, better than a lot of vanguards I actually do know, lol.
EDIT: I just did a test and noticed the new recruit AIs aren't targeted by auto-target. Three Rings, pls, implement these AI into the recon flare and other AI.
I loved the happy go lucky haven music playing on the first lv of breaking in the recruits while you kill innocent lizards and jellies in one hit. I also love the fact their proto guns are actually blitz in disguise while mine is still trapped in that pitty 3 shot bullets.
Was it that hard to relase new missions, OOO? I know it was. And you did great job. And I want more. And I like the direction in which Spiral Knights story is heading.
I think the reason these missions were rolled out before AR is finished (besides the plot aspects) is to show some of the new mechanics. Part of the arcade redux was going to be a new t3 boss with missions before the actual arcade changes, so I'd be willing to bet that the new trap and crystal blocks introduced here will be appearing in new arcade scenarios eventually.
PUZZLES! SWEET MERCIFUL GOD PUZZLES!
nice ones too, nicely done. taking advantage of the fisics I see.
also did not see the last depth of the third mission coming. oh I died. oh I restarted. nicely done indeed.
The advanced puzzles, the new levels, the Collector 2.0, the free Unknown Passage, the new storyline, all just great. When I saw the swarm particles at the final arena of the second depth of the third mission I was like "Oh no" and then the Swarm enemies came and I was like "Oh yeah!" and then I saw the eye on the elevator and I was like "Yay free SL stuff" and then I came into the Unknown Passage and I was like "Wow I forgot how scary and hard this was" and then we finally reached the elevator and I was like "No loot:(, but still awesome:D"
Once again OOO has made clear that they consider quality more important than quantity, they could just have picked some existing levels and put some story behind it, but they chose to design completely new levels, puzzles and rooms just for this.
"... that pave the road for even more new Vanguard mission."
So we can expect more content VERY SOON!? Oh god I like this, can't wait to battle Tinkinzar/Herex himself...
I wonder however why those recruits had
1. Quite good AI: they were even some kind of helpful COUGHMECHAKNIGHTSANDNPCKNIGHTSCOUGH
2. Proto weapons which were reskins of Blitz, Levi and Nitro. I want them too!
I really like how the missions were placed so we get the least amount of radiants possible, and flat out denied drops with the copy pasted unknown passage
Sarcasm aside, they were really well designed new content-wise, well done on that note
Good job OOO! But why the Collector reappear now? We beat him before and... and... i need an explanation.
Uhm... new sprite.. maybe?
Even though the new AIs still have some weird playstyle, they are quite nice and through the implementation of Dash and Bash and the removal of being auto targeted indeed an improvement.
I see many people say the Proto Gun the Cool-Knight uses would be a Blitz, but i have to disagree. I watched the damage their weapons deals and i guess it is around 300 for the Bomb, 250 for the Sword and 100 per shot for the gun (sword and gun not charged). For the bomb probably being an actual Nitronome and the Sword being a Laviathan Blade i think this would make sense, but the gun is not a Blitz Needle. At first 100 damage per shot against a construct are ridiculous high and second the normal attack fires in a straight line with white projectiles.
When i thought of the Grim Repeater before it was put online, i speculated it would maybe use such a fire pattern; now we got another Auto type gun. I cinsidered it at first to be an elemental Needle they had planned and decided to leave out of the Gunner update, but realized it does the same high damage to Gremlins.
At the end of this i unfortunately just get to the conclusion that they gave us an overpowered recruit to play with. I am still interested if anybody has some other ideas about this gun (which also got the wrong skin) and if we once were supposed to get our hands on it.
who is concerned story wise on how a village of strangers were possibly kidnapped or murdered for the whole ambush thing and the Collector(the construct who was built to capture stuff)being there
and also those ghostmane stalkers at the end of the first level :/
and hacking recruits...
Guys, the collector is a semi large mech, by the looks of it its reserved for use by the crimson order, chances are they made more than 1 collector to use
Hey guys I just realized something about the new missions!
Does this mean we vanguards have a new better place to farm for Books of Dark Rituals?
We now have an instant S6 drop into a candlelit keep.
Eh? Eh?
I thought about it too, but alone in the dark is already a shock D24 candlestick keep. If this one was, say, freeze, then yes. We'd have a better farming area.
I thought the "boss sections" were really well designed :D
Half expecting to see another mission layer drip feeding today or next week. I kinda presume that Tier 3 is actually 3 strata long so it will be interesting to see if the anticlimactic swarm teaser leads into it or not.
Okay, yay? Yay!
