Well simple depending on the person, but from my perspective, it's fairly simple.

First suggestion:

My first suggestion is for sk to create a falling shimmering white or whatever color feather aura. The feathers do not have to be very impressionable, just big enough so that people wont mistaken the feathers for chicken feathers. More like an eagle feather. Having some other kind of aura like a shimmering trail of lights or a foreboding clout dark trail for a darker version or even a phoenix version of flame feather this way there can be many variations. The point of this aura is to highlight the Valkyrie set or the fallen Valkyrie set or even the heavenly iron armor. For the heavenly iron armor, it could have a sort of blessed aura where it would be opposite of the curse aura. The aura could just be a ray of light shining from above the head of the character like a miracle. Well i can't think of an aura that would fit the word miracle lol, but i'm sure the developers will do some research and come up with something. I feel these angelic/demonic armor sets should get some publicity sense they like there getting very little attention cosmetic wise cause they have a good look in my opinion.

This is a stretch from the first suggestion, so something like a 1.5 sort of suggestion. I was thinking of an aura for the chaos set lol, and i know we already have a chaos aura, but i feel the red shouldn't be the only color for that aura. So how about an alternative color for the aura like black and red, red and blue, or some color that oppose each other like black and white. I feel that would be more chaotic for two things that oppose each other color wise would form together to create the chaos aura.

Second suggestion:

My second suggestion is for the chat bar to still be visible while the loading screen is on. I only suggest this, because i have seen that players during loading can chat and still type for other players to see. So i think making it more convenient for players to be able to chat with each other while loading instead of waiting until full load to chat is better communications for each other. This way, if one player has a long load, he can still talk with players already loaded and say what is happening from his screen. Well, it's not a very important add on, but i feel for convenient sake, it's a worthwhile suggestion.

Well these are my two suggestions, Discuss! In a formal not too criticizing manner. So no "this suggestion suck" and that's it.

Auras seem neat

Feather aura itself is useful outside of just valkyrie wings, so I'm all for it. You could probably reskin love aura with feathers instead of hearts and remove the pink swirly bit. If you're feeling extra have the feathers sit on the ground for a bit like sprinkle aura.
These could come in various colors... Prismatic, divine, shadow, regal, toasty, cool, etc. Would be a fun new aura!

A different chaos aura, eh, maybe. Perhaps a "conflict aura" with two colors that are opposite of each other (i.e., having a yellow personal color would get you a purple "secondary", and with red you'd get green, etc..). This sort of aura would be great for those sets where you have a personal color that clashes with the main color itself, so you could play into that role with the aura.

Chat bar thing is a good one as well, however it might be good to just have the entire HUD overlay over the loading screen. I mean, you can press the hotkeys to open it up, so it's not impossible, so having everything there and ready for you would be helpful for long loaders.

Thank you man

@Fangel:

Thank you so much man for responding, I have to say your doing a great job. Even though we don't always meet eye to eye, you have kept the forums alive and giving people an incentive to add new threads. Keep up the good work! :)

And about my suggestion, thanks for agreeing with my new aura idea. I think those auras would be a great cosmetic addition to our characters looks. I also like how you modified the chaotic aura to be the opposite of our main color. Thanks for enhancing the idea.

I also agree with you for having the entire hud overlay over the loading screen. The loading screen is kind of an outdated screen where it shows a screenshot and a moving gear and moving numbers. It would be great if that could be changed to look a bit more modern with something to interact with while loading but that is another discussion for another thread. The entire hud overlay would allow us to do what we normally could do when where not loading but just can;t move our characters around. Sense we already can access some of the hud like pressing u to see the forge or other buttons for other windows, having the entire hud be loaded first before anything else should not be too long or hard of a load i imagine for the developers to do. This way, we can still be able to manage our characters during the loading and chat with players on our team.

Geez

I know you're not my alt but by golly even I'm questioning that after reading that last post, lol.

With the aura I'm thinking the prismatic one would be like how i described, and then other themes would have a counter-theme attached to them (military would have a pale red, toasty would have a dark green, regal would have a royal purple, fancy would have a washed out yellow) as a compliment color.

For the loading screens, I wouldn't mind if they take a bit longer to allow the HUD to be up. Perhaps that would be an option you can enable/disable in the options being on by default?

agreed!

@Fangel:

Sorry for the over flattery, just wanting to throw out some appreciation for your efforts.

I completely agree with your post. Having some conflicting colors in the aura, would certainly emphasize the chaos theme.

The hud could be an option for those who do not want the extra loading time, they can always take it out of the option menu.

Well i feel this thread is complete. If anyone doesn't add anymore to this, i will just send it top the graveyard in about 3 days.

i love the feather idea, and what you said about the ray of light shining down on a player. these are great ideas and fanged made a good point about a feather trail behind the character.

however i don't really agree with the chaos aura. they already have hacked aura and for some reason it sounds very similar imo. but i like the creativity and i'd love to see concept art for both!

Given my previous experience in playing in SK, I imagine the HUD would be highly unresponsive at load-time, given the back-end of the game is doing a bit of work. Plus, it may be that the HUD, character, etc classes are set to re-init themselves at load-time, making them be unavailable until that time.

As in, the HUD itself loads very quickly. But the HUD is just an interface to other management classes.
If that's the case, having the whole of the HUD be available might not be practical (at least, not without a re-work of the loading system).
Of course, they could just make it available when its done, and the rest of the loading will just be the map.

That said, the chat system alone should be fine; given it all it does is send/receive messages. So it should be easy to have that load asynchronously, and available while the rest of the game loads.

Response

@Bullpig:

Hmm, well the hack aura kind of shows miniature square screens showing error or some kind of message. i feel the color of the hack aura might be similar, but the concept is different.

The chaos aura so far just shows a red/crimson static/electric current enveloping and pulsating through/around the characters armor. I like the concept of the chaos aura, i feel an electric current kind of shows a bit of chaos, though there could be other ways to show chaos. But i do not want to give too much work for the programmers. But, i do wish for the chaos aura to look a bit more like chaos. So i was thinking of just changing the color of the aura to two different currents and these colors that oppose each other. Like blue and red. Having these two colors in the current would show a bit more that chaos is more about disorder, and not knowing up from down and such that chaos should be represented through those colors.

@Mookie-Cookie:

I was thinking of a more simple pre-load hub that just gives simple chat and easier movement when looking at character equipment. Like checking what i have equipped and what i want to equip.

Also going a bit further, i was thinking why not make the loading portion of the game while in the clockworks itself like the waiting room in lock down where instead of a waiting room, it would show the player(s) in an elevator that is either going up or down. The players would be able to move their characters while in the small square elevator space and be able to browse thought their character hud, chat, look at the the gate map, ect. until the load in the background is done and the characters poof into the field that loaded. I feel this would kind of increase depth into the game, give players something to do while load. Though some players load faster then others depending on their pc, i think this should not take too much work base on graphical design and small scale room programming code that provides the list of functions i mentioned before. If the devs can;t create this, then why not just create a small movie clip showing the elevator going up/down like in metroid.

Bleh.

Don't misunderstand me. I wasn't saying your idea was bad; just that it might not stand to be practical without major re-work (given the time taken to develop the sprites, you can imagine you'd be waiting a while).

...like the waiting room in lock down...
If memory serves, the waiting room for Lockdown doesn't do any loading - it's just a room prior to dropping you into the LD map, the map itself is loaded beforehand. You still have to load into LD in the same fashion as going to a new depth in the Clockworks. Chances are, they use some sort of batch loading mechanism - or at least have class inter-dependencies so they don't want you messing with things while others still load. Who knows.

Plus, I did mention there's little reason (that I can see) why the chat system could not be pulled out of that batch loading, loaded immediately and asynchronously, and be available while the rest of it loads.

Now, to put my opinion forward, I do like the idea.
Just don't expect it to come very quickly. ;)

Some concepts
  • First concept
  • First Chaos aura concept
    Chaos definition:

#1. a state of utter confusion or disorder; a total lack of organization or order.

#2. any confused, disorderly mass: Ex: a chaos of meaningless phrases

#3: the infinity of space or formless matter supposed to have preceded the existence of the ordered universe.

#4: Obsolete. a chasm or abyss.

    Synonyms: disarray, jumble, turmoil, tumult.
    Antonyms: order, peace, calm.

What this tells me is that chaos is formless. I has no order and is unpredictable. Though sense our eyes have limits, it will have to be limited to some form for us to be able to see an aura for it. So i think the first concept i showed reflects chaos in a small form. Though that concept i showed you feel more closer to a solar storm aura, but i think it can also represent chaos aura.

  • Second concept
  • Second chaos aura concept

  • Third concept
  • Third Chaos concept

  • Fourth concept
  • Fourth chaos concept

  • Fith concept
  • First Falling Phoenix feather concept

The feather aura can be from any mythical/fantasy creature like a phoenix or an angel, or fallen angel ect. These feathers can have different properties to them like an angels feather would have a dim white glow with tiny light sprinkles/particles as it falls. The phoenix feather could be on fire with maybe a small symbol on the feather and leave a trail of ash as it falls. The fallen angel feather could be as black as a crows with black glow and leaving a trail of disappearing shadow dots as it falls. Other feathers would have other properties thereby making them truly unique/desirable.

  • Sixth concept
  • Second Falling Phoenix feather concept

  • Seventh Concept
  • Third falling Phoenix feather concept

This is a concept of what the aura could be like where we have feathers falling with small particle trail as they fall down. The feathers could be on fire for an extra graphical effect.

  • Eighth Concept
  • Fourth Falling Phoenix feather concept

This one is more of an alternate dark twisted version of a phoenix feather concept where the feather is dripping some kind of liquid (could be blood) and has an blurry eye symbol on the feather that looks like the eyes is in pain. It's very interesting.

  • Ninth Concept
  • Fifth Falling Phoenix feather concept

This one seems okay, though the dark feather seems like an alternate coloring.

  • Tenth Concept
  • Other Feather designs for concepts

  • Eleventh Concept
  • Angel feather Concept

This is just a concept of how the angel concept could work. The feathers would be falling around the character, but with the graphical effects that i mentioned above.

  • Twelfth concept
  • General feather concept

Just general feather concept without any graphical/design add-ons.

  • Thirteenth concept
  • Fallen angel concept

Fallen angel feather concept without graphical add-ons.

  • Fourteenth concept

Miracle concept

Definition of miracle:

#1: an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.

#2: such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God.

#3: a wonder; marvel.

#4: an event that is contrary to the established laws of nature and attributed to a supernatural cause.

#5: a wonderful or surpassing example of some quality EX: bridge was a miracle of engineering.

#6: From the bible: an event in the external world brought about by the immediate agency or the simple volition of God

I really don't know what an aura for a miracle would look like, hehe. But i'm sure we have very imaginative artist in the spiral knights development community and can come up with good ideas. Though while they have not come up or even decided on this idea, why not us in the forums community come up with some ideas/concepts.

These are just concepts and not actual changes that i want. What i want i already described in the last post. Although if the concepts i proposed could become a new aura for an alternate chaos i would be happy, but if that is not possible i would be satisfied with my last proposed changes.

+1

I like 'em.

SK needs more bird stuff to wear. So far, we've got...Sniped stranger hat...valk wings...owlite shields...shako hats...and...maybe the Seerus masks if you pretend the "Tengu" nose is a beak, but the ears kind of offset that big time. I'd strut a peacock tail with chickenfeet footprints trailing behind me any day.

Back to this thread - I like the auras, you have my +1, though not for blood - sk and blood do not mix. Monsters explode into dust and/or light. The second chaos picture you've linked to really fits, kinda looks like a cloak and hood. Chaos cloak. Chaos cowl yep.

My thoughts on a Miracle Aura: a twinkle aura on steroids. Constantly twinkles, a lot. Some of the little twinkles are prismatic. Leaves tiny swirls of galaxies and comets/shooting stars behind if you walk (like the ash tail coat swirls, but starry and sparkly). Puts a very faint swirling galaxy under your knight - really subtle. Other auras put circles under your knight (notably Baleful), so this wouldn't be out of place. To me, all of existence is a "miracle," so yeah. Also the in-game miracle cloak/hood have stars.

This feels like a nemesis promo.

@Dracora-Speaking:

Glad you like the pics i showed as examples. Sk does have a limited armors that portray the player as a majestic fairy tail bird. It more has cosmetics that try to do that like the wings of fire and stuff like that.

The blood one could always be changed to some kind of curse design feather aura and where the blood itself goes upwards instead of downwards and where the blood can be recolored into some kind of shadowy goo. I think that would fit into the sk theme.

I like your idea of the miracle aura, and it would so fit the costume celestial and galactic costumes.

lol, nemesis, well i don;t know. I was kind of trying to create a heaven and hell and all in between promo. Like having angel, fallen angel and magical beast feather aura. I think it would be cool.
