I don't understand. It is an odd number. In previous random drawings, weren't 50 players chosen every hour? But it's 37 now? At weird intervals? I don't... understand?

Has 37 turned into the new 50? Why didn't Birdsong Mining Co. go with 42 people every drawing? Is the drawing based on 37 gremlins handpicking names from a grab-bag of knight names? Does it have anything to do with Nick's #10? Is it because 37 is the twelfth prime number? Was there something so obviously special about 12 that it wasn't used off the bat? Is 37 mystically special now? Or! Is it geometrically special? 37 hexagons can make a hexagon? Has anyone even noticed you can add three prime numbers (including 7) together to equal THIRTY-SEVEN?

I'm now curious if anyone else has an idea what the reason behind the mysterious 37 is. It might be a simple reason or something convoluted and half crazy, but there is a reason. Once the lottery is over I'll pop back here to read all of your theories. And no, I'm not going to say if someone has already guessed. Where would be the fun in that?

With 50 winners, one could increase their chances to win by logging on times when people online were few. Success odds were originaly meant to be around 5% (oh, OOO's love for tiny chances), but on certain hours they could even exceed 10%.

I think that 370 was the lowest registered number of people online, so OOO ensured that chances to win would be 10% at absolute best and never more.

@Flowchart, why must you be so logical, reasonably reasonable! That makes so much sense-stuff now, the 37, to try and maintain the ratio of about 50 winners per hour... but instead of 50 people on the hour, every hour, at easily trackable intervals, 37 peeps every 45 min.?
Why that? 'to make it a pinch harder for hopeful, lazy vultures to pop in for a half minute waiting to be blessed? Or is that inevitable?
Maybe-- while the Birdsong Mining Co. wanted to give more people a chance by having a giveaway happen more often (how many minutes do you spend playing this game at a time anyway?), they only had a certain number of gremlin-sewn hats and name-changing legal documents and spare authorized fireworks to give away. Because of their limited supply, they decided to stick with maintaining that frequency of... a free party package given every 72 seconds over the course of however long they planned their giveaway... Why, what- why not 25 people every half hour!?

...rrrrreason aside, they kinda make cutesy emotes, too.

Though scaling down the number of prizes and the time doesn't really make much sense to me. Like maybe it was that players felt it was too hard to win, so they gave out more over a shorter time period but less overall? The thing that doesn't add up to me is giving out less at all. It's not like it costs them money to generate MMO items, and giving out more can only make them appear more generous.

The interval we were working with was actually 44 mins because this was our 4th anniversary. During the New Years lotto there were approximately .833 winners per minute. With a drawing every 44 mins we needed to have 37 winners (.841 per minute) after we rounded up to include more winners rather than fewer.

As four the rest of us, well, at least the puzzle can be put to bed. I'm honestly surprised none of us foursaw the numbers befour being told it was all fours, this being the fourth birthday and all.
