Did I read too much into the new promo?

Because I could almost swear that it's some kind of reference to Monster Hunter 4's Gore Magala and/or its Frenzy Virus.

Or it could just be a weird coincidence. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EDIT: For the lazy ones that dun wanna reed da wiki artkle: "In large monsters, the Frenzy Virus causes a notable discolouration of the skin, fur, feathers, or hide, resulting in a dark purple hue all over the body."

You definitely read too much

You definitely read too much into this.

"In most prize boxes, the [no personal attacks] artist/developer/intern causes a notable discolouration of the skin, fur, feathers, or hide, resulting in some strange hue all over Haven."

Probably a coincidence

All of the words we've been using for these promos have to do with the "wrath of the gods". We have strong words such as storm, raging, and now frenzy. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a "Wrathful" promo in the future where we recolored the storm promo to be a green or a blue.

If you look at the Frenzy Crest you could also see another Monster Hunter icon. The icon that appears when teammates are in the same area as a monster.

algorithms are the solutions to any problem.

that frenzy isn't the only thing that's purple and black, y'know.

and I didn't play monster hunter 4. but since OOO is published by SEGA my idea is more probable.

My point was that I didn't play that game so I had no idea that wisp was even a thing. But yes, your suggestion makes more sense.

If we ignore the Frenzy Crest's icon being similar to one of the icons in MH, too :p

Google fu + Speculation = New theory

It's amusing how the Hunters of Cradle (including myself) start flying out of the woodwork to bark at this promotion.

@Thunder-The-Bright
If the promotion was named "Nega" then it would be more probable, but to name a promotion after a single Wisp's ability to nod at an entire game seems off. The word Frenzy is only mentioned with that sole Wisp, never to be uttered outside of that context. If they really want to reference Colors, they're late to the party. It's still probable, and I would've preferred they had done it more clearly if it was.

Then we have Monster Hunter, in which not only released much more recently but also has a Capcom/SEGA Sonic crossover that was launched last week (He makes jumping and spindash noises when he runs, it's fantastic). AND the Frenzy Virus is not only mentioned throughout the entire game, but is the main plot device for the entire game. It's a status condition for monsters and players alike, it's used in armor and skills, and the flagship monster commands/spreads it wreaking havoc on ecosystems. Any hunter would be blind not to make the connection. This doesn't make the theory solid, just explains why we called them out on it.

If you really want to get technical, the promotion is based on "ancient gods" and the adult form of the monster that commands the virus is named after a mountain god based on the mountain on which it roosts and molts. This is just trivia and matches the theme, really.

@Fangel
Keep in mind out all the intimidating, aggressive, empowering words in the English language to use for their next promotion, they chose and stuck with "Frenzy"

So, new weaker theory: This is SEGA's way of reciprocating the crossover? I don't know, but the speculation is fun.

As soon as I saw the picture

As soon as I saw the picture and name of the promo I thought they were copying MH4U.
