the team working on SK right now is composed of 10 people, and only a couple of programmers from the looks of it.
holy %$&&, what happened here? I understand how the development can be this slow with only a handful of developers, but I didn't think they were so few.

That list is almost a year old now. It is possible the list is even shorter by now.
According to this, the team is bigger than I remember.
But Skepticraven's comment is quite right, that the wiki is not perfectly updated. In fact, a significant portion of the day-to-day wiki work is done by players.
10 names, but the bottom 4 are 'Community'
It's only the top 6 listed in game, and even then the copyright says 2014 so it's up to you if you believe they have a designer, 3 engineers and 2 artists working or not.
You can check in-game in the 'about' tab.
That wiki page is locked to admins only, so even players can't edit it and keep it up to date.
Well...this explains quite a bit.
