so as we're all pretty much aware, new promo is out (oh my god who would have guessed that's what this thread was for)
magmatic wings:

so i got curious and decided to go under the hood to look at the game's files (i.e. not alter them in any way shape or form as per OOO's ToS), and imagine my surprise when there's not an updated file for the wings we see currently (hint: this was my surprise)
don't you just love copypasting?
EDIT: to those who have spiral spy i will neither encourage or discourage you to look at the wings within that in order to determine for yourselves (as per ToS' guidelines i'm still unsure as to whether it violates it or not); while i'm normally pretty thorough with these things i also do not have a functioning version of that on my computer currently so if someone wants to do the legwork on that (i.e. either direct me to a place where i can download it -or- provide your own screenshots) that'd be fantastic

ironically enough this isn't to be negative in an undue fashion, which i apparently have a penchant/reputation for
it's to highlight the point that if the team at OOO can't dedicate enough manpower to have something retextured well enough to even pass as a different item at a glance, then i have legitimate concerns about the quality control being implemented within the game

midnight-dj: considering these wings have been released on multiple occasions within the solstice promos (starting in june 2014 they've released a total of three times according to the wiki), i find it hard to believe that they wouldn't make this connection considering they've headlined on the promotional banner each time they went up since june 2014

sweet-hope: no, this is solely in discussion of the valkyrie wings. while i admit that recoloring those are also somewhat lazy, at least the magmatic fiend/fanatic whatever they're called wings had enough of an edit to merit being a different item. in this case, releasing the same wings under a different name is at best, a mistake and at worst, pretty dishonest to do.

The venom wings were dragon wings, they added new fire dragon wings for this promo.
Still, it seems odd that the summer wings were just renamed magmatic and shoved in the box. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

to my knowledge the fanatic/dragon wings are an intentional release for this promo based off of the prize box drop tables that were published to the wiki. again, this is about the magmatic valkyrie wings and the wings of summer, not about the magmatic fanatic/dragon wings.

Friendly reminder that these were released in the solstice prize box, not the equinox one. Equinox is the other bi-yearly prize box ridden with UV tickets, but with spacey costumes that make us look naked instead of shiny accessories to put on our other costumes.
But er, odd for Three Rings to re-release the same item under a different name. I think they got the definition for reskin backwards on this one.
However Midnight-Dj does predict my initial reaction to hearing these wings existed, which is "oh hey, a prize box that isn't terribad in prizes, oh and it has that really rare item from that prize box that we all dislike? Awesome, another chance to get something we want AND not be stuck with a 1-UV ticket!"

only reason i'm bothered by it is because saying it's something different when it's not is stupid - they could just add "wings of summer" to the box and swap out the magmatic valk wings and i'd be completely fine with it; just as is it looks pretty bad on their end and as a player, frankly i expect better of them

I mean, it would be wonderful if the wings were different in appearance... Or if they just put the "Wings of Summer" in there.
I understand why they didn't though, as that item is attached to the solstice prize box and this prize box has its naming scheme figured out, but it would be a lot less confusing and disappointing to the players to not rename it.
I mean, I wouldn't be ticked off if they added the wings of winter to that Operation: GELID in the past renamed to "Arctic Rouge Wings", but it would be equally as confusing and disappointing, but a good chance to grab those wings without being disappointed by the worse items. Same thought process as I have here I suppose...

I (and a number of people out there, I imagine) am quite upset with the idea of this proposed change. Seeing how beautiful those Magmatic Valkyrie Wings were, I made the decision to spend the better part of my accumulated in-game wealth to acquire them for my own use (not resale). I bound them to my costume, thinking they would have the appearance as they do now. I certainly did not buy them only to have them take on a different look later (and not necessarily one I want) because the devs neglected to release the correct model in the first place! Is this not false advertising, I ask you? How would you feel if you bought something only to have it change into something else because of an oversight on the seller's part?
I have a sinking suspicion that I am powerless in the matter, but I really want the wings to stay the way they are. :/

Are you advocating OOO's decision to alter something after it's been released? Internet legitimacy may be questionable and all, but this is not a matter of my individual actions - it is a matter of company integrity. They advertised item X. I bought it because it was item X. I did not ask for item Y. If it were item Y they were selling, I would not spend money at all.
Retracting or changing a item because it was advertised under the incorrect label just damages customer faith in their products.
They should just repackage the correct model of the wings in a later promo. That would be the better course of action, wouldn't you say?

Nope, not at all, in fact, I do not care what OOO does to SK one way or another, if they screw up and go bankrupt, that is their fault. They chose to isolate themselves from the fan base long ago, so in return they should expect our abandonment.
I bought it because it was item X. I did not ask for item Y. If it were item Y they were selling, I would not spend money at all.
This is some really shifty internet transactions we have here, not as easily resolved as a real life product (remember the things I said about internet?), so you may just have to live with it, nothing more could have been done.

We advertised a new color of Valkyrie Wings for this promo and it was decided it would be wrong of us to just keep using the Wings of Summer. I know some of you love the Wings of Summer, but there are also people who purchased the boxes to get the new Magmatic Valkyrie Wings, and did not get what was advertised.
I haven't seen the new wings, but the devs say they are sizzlin'! :P I ask you to wait until you see the new wings, and then decide if you need to contact support about your situation. Thanks!

Oooh.
New wings are very pretty, and although they look similar they aren't the same now, which was the only real issue.
They look a bit wider than regular ones from that picture. I'll need to see them more in-game before I make all my judgements though.

@Fangel Yus, for sure. The animations are very different. One's filmy (magmatic), the other is in flux (WoS). Animations take quite a lot longer to put together than two screenshots, sadly.
