And what exactly changed...?
So today the server rebooted...
Item's from today's update are listed below:
- Slime key is now for sale in more places (Emberlight and sometimes the terminal). We suggest you continue to check with Smitty when he's around.
- Fixed shadow lair conversation.
- Steam region block for Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong have been removed.
- Mac standalone installer improved and now includes packaged-up java.
Eh.... was excited for Black Kat event.
Loving the new patch, also love how people are complaining about repeated promos even though other people want them, confusing for the devs isn't it?
I'm making sure it's not confusing for the devs, as I haven't spent a dime in two years to stand behind the lack of new content worthwhile to play being an issue. I don't reward false hype.
I'll admit I spend money on this game not much but some.I enjoy this game and I like what they are doing now so I don't mind supporting it .Some people are never happy
@Enclavean Eh.... was excited for Black Kat event.
Sure, why not?
"why not?"
Well the event does take away the people I want going on fun runs that do not reflect the official black kat slogan of "alone in the dark"... so I mean.. you could perhaps tweak it a bit? We made a whole thread of ideas.
Grinding is cancer in general. How about we tweak getting crowns in general too where we get 10k every Snarbolax run.
@Aseren
Go read the suggestions link I posted. There are two big issues being solved here-
1.) The RNG is painful and a bit excessive. You grind and grind and... well, you're never guaranteed anything. There will be a lot of players that try very hard to find a book and many if not most of them won't succeed at all. You don't get progress, you get a chance and when that chance doesn't pay out you're back where you started. 1000 pages? You're just as likely to find a book as the guy next to you at zero pages. This is frustrating and unfun, not to mention a waste of everyone's time when they get nothing but pages.
2.) The black kats are fun to fight and we can't just fight them, except in exceedingly small numbers and with only one guaranteed area per day. Regardless of the reward, I would like an area with many black kats inside of it so that I can have a grand old time fighting them.
I believe that you should be rewarded for your grinding and that events should be something to look forward to, not a chore. Perhaps you'd rather the snarbolax pay out 200 tokens + 100K crowns randomly every two hundred runs and nothing the rest of the time?
Maybe. But usually I just deal with it because most of the time... Developers don't care if you are having crap luck or complaining. I dunno about Grey Haven yet either. If they were to actually do a good update, then yeah - Your suggestions should be in their update. For now though, I don't see it happening at all.
Let's not forget that boring monotonous grinding is what makes F2P such a success to begin with, the appeal for the shiny prize is tew stronge
The boring monotonous grind is okay when it's done right. If I'm grinding for crowns I can run crown heavy levels. If I'm grinding for heat I can go to heat heavy levels. If I'm grinding for beast materials I go to beast levels. If I'm grinding for books of dark rituals I... I uh... I'm going to candlesticks but not ensured anything.
The event used to be "grind for pages", with the book being the icing on the cake; something extra special. Now the event is literally only about the book. It makes the rest of the event unfun when the one item you're looking for is so rare, you don't focus on the pages because they aren't important to you. Each black kat without a book was useless to you - that can be 1 black cat or 300 black kats.
End of the day, we don't even want the books. We want the whiskers from the margrel fight. Let me fight margrel in exchange for tokens and I'll be a happy camper.
I'm gonna stick with the grinding and RNG elements being a necessary part of the game. I deal with them every day with crafting and it's quite frankly what's kept me about so long. Rarity is exciting, book of dark rituals is one of the rare item you can get by spending time rather than money. Frustration is just part of the gambling process. In fact I want more of these, perhaps not on an event basis though!
It's a tough debate, convenience and accessibility is great but too much of it and the game loses it's mojo, if that makes any sense.
Basically as is, black kat event is in a bad state because:
A) desirable set (black kat set) is equally as expensive as less desirable sets
B) boss content is locked behind a grindwall
Basically, I'm A-OK with black kat being behind such a massive grindwall. I am not okay with kat claw, eye, and hiss being behind the same grindwalls, especially since the helmets are not behind the grindwall as it is.
This event is grindy, unrewarding, and encourages scamming (make people pay for slots for your margrel party then leave). Tortodrones is still a grind, but it's fun and rewarding. Apocrea is still a grind, but you know you can do it. Heck, grinchlin assault is a difficult grind on-par with current black kat setup, however the rewards are sidegrades or reskins, not essential gear for endgame.
Yes these contribution based events and features are a bit risky when it comes to scam; I've asked a long time ago for a feature with Vyse to allow two players to participate jointly, one to provide the unbinding fee and one to provide the item. It's tedious and I've lost money there more than once.
On a side note it would appear lots of books have already cropped up, the rates might have been made slightly higher!
When it comes to Vise you can straight up buy an unbinding ticket from the supply depot and give it to them. It's not energy they can use on anything else, so while they have the potential to run off with the ticket there's only so much they can do with it.
However whiskers were designed more in line to get players to want to take others on margrel runs. That's great until you make it the only thing worthwhile to do in the event.
And sure, "lots of books cropping up" might seem like good news, but it doesn't mean anything other than RNG is doing its job. The rest of the event could have literally zero book drops and it would still be RNG doing its job.
Last event I literally farmed for over 72 hours hunting black kats. I found a book of dark rituals after my 294th or so. I can't remember, it was between 270 and 300. That was the last day of the event. I can assure you you wouldn't run mindlessly through a candlestick keep for over 3 days over the course of 10 days without getting bitter at the event. Funny thing is, if I knew I could fight margrel after 100 pages I would still be farming for black kats, I would just also not feel compelled to keep running the event should I get tired of it.
Yea I'll wait for an official "yes we raised the odds" or of course a statistical investigation made by whoever before I believe that it's been raised.
Are you familiar with the term known as... inflation? Supply and demand? If you increase the rate at which you gain crowns by 5x, people are going to raise prices by 5x.
Because patch notes are overrated.
