Screenshots of new Atomizer vs Shivermist (now with video side-by-side from Noodleface!)

I don't have an old shivermist screenshot to compare, but I have both four- and five-star versions of the bomb to compare it to.

It looks like the radius really was only slightly reduced - I can't immediately tell it's smaller by memory and eyeball. (My guess is that it had to do with Vanaduke runs, where the edge of the old shivermist haze was just big enough to keep the lug frozen while remaining relatively safe.)

The wiki has an old picture, looks like it was taken at one of Basil's terminals. I'll update the screenshots when I next get to one.

The displayed Atomizer is at heat level 6 or 7, while the Shivermist is level 10. I don't recally if the heat level affects haze radius.

Here you go: Radii comparison

Here you go: Radii comparison using nitronome radius as baseline. I used the wiki images of nitro and shiv.

Eh, I'm glad I didn't see

Eh, I'm glad I didn't see your comparison image first - it really highlights the difference. Thanks. The reduction looks a lot more drastic than I'd thought while eyeballing it in the training room. Still, looks like Shivermist and I are going to remain inseperable, even with the (slightly) smaller effect radius.

The cloud duration nerf is a lot bigger deal than the slightly smaller radius.

Duke, I've no objective way

Duke, I've no objective way to measure that. However, some quick tests indicate that it does appear that the white "mist" graphic and the freeze ability are related, and the "mist" will freeze enemies which touch the edge of the mist cloud even as it is almost completely faded.

I notice no decrease in the duration of the mist cloud - not saying there hasn't been a reduction, but as someone who solos and relies upon Shivermist, I still don't notice it.

Perhaps someone used fraps to make a video which includes a clear, full cycle of an old shivermist, and doesn't mind making a new video to compare with the new shivermist.

Seems like pretty minor changes to me but I have not yet had a chance to test it in combat.

Noodleface, you rock. Thank

Noodleface, you rock. Thank you!

After playing for a while yesterday, the changes are enough to be annoying, but since the freeze duration itself (of the freeze effect, not the haze mist) appears unchanged, this should generally leave the standard use by a Shivermist spammer unchanged. Solo play, especially in graveyards, is affected slightly, as it's not likely a phantom will be re-frozen by the mist of a Shivermist after using a Brandish charge attack, but that tactic was always a bit dicey even with the old radius and duration.

Maybe I can get your name right - I seem to have have "whip" on the brain... ;)

@zinwhip

Glad I had the footage on hand :D. Thanks for the summary of your combat experience! Sounds like a very workable change and it will still be in my pocket for any fiend/fsc runs I do with the guild.
